This resort is 45 - 60 minutes drive from the Picton to Havelock coast road. It's a "no exit" road, so you have to return the same way. The road is incredibly winding - a challenging but very scenic drive with occasional wonderful views of the Marlborough Sounds. The road continues beyond this resort for many Kms - to campgrounds and other small places where there are holiday homes. I'm amazed that people live out this far from any town.
We arrived there at 1.30pm, in need of a light liunch before the return drive.
A friendly welcome and "of course they were still service food" set the right tone.
It was a beautiful day and we settled on the balcony with a sunshade obligingly put up by the assistant manager who had greeted us.
We enjoyed a beer, glass of wine, excellent bowl of fish chowder and a gererous portion of fish and chips with fresh salad - total cost NZ$60. OK a bit pricey but you are paying for an amazing location and views and the practicality of shipping everything to such a remote area.
The resort is in the process of being refurbished and the areas we saw were fresh, clean and well decorated.
We met other guests who had arrived by boat - this would be an ideal lunch stop if you have the privelege of cruising the Sounds.More
