“walk it off”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

A lovely one way walk on good pathways. You have to be keen to do it all, especially both ways. A pass required in some areas is confusing. Take everything you need to eat drink & relax. Excellent views over water in many areas but a bit repetitive.

“Windy road to Havelock!”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

After getting off the ferry we wanted to see as much of the shoreline as possible on our drive to Nelson via Havelock. This seemed like a good idea and it turned out to be very pretty.

“Great hike, even in winter.”
Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

We headed out from Picton towards the Queen Charlotte track. The road was very curvy, but the views were stunning. Be sure to stop at the lookouts.

We started our hike at Anakiwa. We wanted to do a 3-4 hour hike. Including stops for photos and a lunch stop, we hiked for 4.5 hours. In total, we hiked about 18 kms return. This was a great walk. The views are stunning. Around every corner, we encountered another stunning vista. The track is also used by mountain bikers, who will advise you of their approach. Walkers and bikers are very respectful of each other.

This is a great day hike. Be sure to pack plenty of water, since there is no water on the track. There are places to stop and have a snack or eat lunch.

“Awesome track - esp in summer”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

We walked track in mid-January many years ago (can't remember back that far!) and the weather was awesome - a little too good for the section between Punga Cove and Portage - we saw yachties diving off their boats into the water and were jealous. :-)

The climb out of Punga Cove is long and the switchback into Portage is steepish but on the whole, if you have reasonable fitness you can do this - and, if not, get the boat to take your gear.

We took the mailboat out and walked back, staying in camping grounds. It only took half a day to walk to Punga Cove so we spent the afternoon hiring a small boat and gear and catching dinner.

Was an awesome trip and it still brings back fond memories.

“Crazy experience”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

It hitchhiked the my way to Nelson through this track and I drove with a local who had an amazing speed which was kind of scary but also kind of funny. As a nonlocal it might be a street which is not the easiest to drive. But this is fun. And the views are just stunning. GO THERE!
