Description: Nestled in the picturesque town of Picton at the top of the South Island, New Zealand, and at the gateway to the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, is the ‘Crow Tavern. A home away from home for the local residents of Picton and tourists as well. Located on the town square it is the only Tavern in town and is surrounded by a residential area. The Crow has a full restaurant, public bar, lounge bar, bottle store, smoking area, gaming room and garden bar. It is a place where business is done, jokes are told and celebrations are held. The ladies feel comfortable in the bar and the staff and patrons are one big family. Customers share their family occasions here and sit outside in the pretty garden bar all summer long. In winter the huge open fire is a big draw card along with the big screen TVs for watching the rugby.Around the tavern are many photos of local rugby teams, fishing excursions and boats in precarious positions previously owned by local patrons. The Tavern was first built in 1855 and has been rebuilt twice since. The Crow is one of the few places in Marlborough with history of the area on the walls. The restaurant has a wall dedicated to ‘The Echo’, one of the oldest ships in the world which is now beached at Shelly beach near the town center.

“The beer was great !”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2012

An interesting sort of place - older building and decor, not at all tissed up or trying to be fancy (which is a welcome change) We had the seafood platter - or - 'Treasure Chest'. Yes it's a generous size and it's cheap. The king prawns and fresh mussells (two per serve) & chips were good. However, everything else appeared to have come out of a tin. I don't think the Mrs will ever let me order a seafood platter again. In truth I felt like we were 'rolling the dice' going in, so can't complain too much.

Thank you for choosing to come to the Crow Tavern and for taking the time to provide a review of your recent visit. We are disappointed to learn that your visit did not meet your needs or expectations and that you found our facilities and services below par. We would like to point out that the only thing to come out off a tin was the beetroot. All other product comes fresh from local suppliers this includes the fish, mussels. oysters, scallops, fish bites, prawns, squid rings, mayo and salads. Thank you once again for providing feedback, we are disappointed that we did not meet your standards as this is something that we strive to achieve.

“Great Pub Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2012

We went to the Crow Tavern with our family, the first time in over 4 years.
It was great,we had a lovely log fire to keep us warm while playing pool.
The staff were friendly. We all opted for the $10 Bar meals, you have a choice of about 5 meals and they were well cooked and tasty. The portions were generous in size.
The decor is dated but who cares, we all enjoyed ourselves and would go back again.

“Good Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2012

A quaint pub situated on the outskirts of town, it has good parking and easy to find. The Crow has welcoming fire on a chilly evening, much apprieciated. The restraunt was clean and the staff welcomed us on our arrival. There was a good selection of food (including crayfish). The meals are a good size and very tasty. A nice warm environment to spend the evening with friends. $67 for four people, and not all was eaten, is great value. Reccommend to all visitors (and locals) to Picton.
