This was the first place we came to after departing the Ferry. Typical uninteresting Kiwi fare. Steak and chips, fish and chips you get my drift. Uninteresting beers. No local beers

“Awesome”
Reviewed 13 August 2012

Cannot fault the service or the meals. Best steak I have had for a long time and very much needed after a very rough ferry from Wellington to Picton. Would definitely to back again.

“Disappointing experience”
Reviewed 20 July 2012

Having had guests who lunched at the Toot and Whistle because of a review they had read made me think I'll try it too. Overall, a disappointment for me.
Major benefit - only several minutes walk to the InterIslander ferry terminal and has parking spaces for cars.
I found the staff unfriendly to those they don't know but there was plenty of chatter and laughs with the regulars around the bar. My choice of Seafood chowder and crusty bread were both hot and tasty. Two televisions were showing pictures - TV1 news was on one and the other had the Tour of France cycling race. Then there was a radio station on providing the only audio on totally different topics. I was told the news would be on the TV much later than it was showing ..Bizzarre ... Why oh why. Would not choose to return to this establishment ... I'm sure there's other places which would be more welcoming, with probably as good, if not better, food.
For those who like to play the Pokie machines or want to place a bet on a race while filling in time, they provide both.

Best chowder I had when in NZ - very reasonable prices and friendly service.
