This was on of my favorite ways to spend a day in New Zealand. We stayed in Auckland, so we took the ferry to Waiheke Island. We were picked up right on time at the ferry terminal. We enjoyed each and every winery on the island. We loved out tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and super funny :-)

We had not selected a place for lunch, so he recommended one based on what we liked...and we loved it! We could not have asked for a better way to spend the day.

This was an AWESOME tour. Steve was our guide for the day and he was fabulous! We learnt so much about Waiheke whilst driving between wineries. Steve was professional, courteous, funny and very knowledgable - he really made the day.

This was by far my favorite thing I did in while we were staying in Auckland. My only regret was that I did this on the day that we were flying out to Wellington in the evening. I wish I did it the day prior so I could've made my stay on Waiheke a little bit longer.

The driver (who was amazing and I'm kicking myself for not recalling his name) was prompt in picking me up from the ferry. He was waiting at the dock w my name on a sign. He picked up a few others, we had to go pick up a few other people at the nearby zip lining place. There were 7 people total in the group. It was perfect. The people got along fabulously & the driver was great at giving us local knowledge. He's a good humored man with lots of personality. He also truly wanted to make sure everyone had a great time. Loved seeing the pride he has in his island, it helped to make it an even better tour.

The wineries were gorgeous. We were lucky to have a beautiful day. It was cold, windy and gray on the ferry ride over- make sure to bring a wind proof jacket. It was a little chilly at the first winery, then the sun came out. Gorgeous. Picture perfect day. My favorite wineries were stony brook (row as it stony ridge? Stony something), mud brick and cable bay. Cable bay have amazing bean bag chair things to sit on and overlook the beautiful grass and ocean. Stony something has a gorgeous ground & the picture frame. Mudbrick's grounds were pristine - & the food was delicious.

Such a great day. Thank you for making it amazing. Highly, highly recommend touring through them!

Hi,
Thanks for your very positive review of both Waiheke and Ananda Tours.
Glad you enjoyed your day and took the time to let others know about us.
Yes it was Stonyridge that you went to. One of our more established vineyards.
Having over 30 vineyard on the Island and many of these with cellar doors where you can taste wine we make a big effort for people to visit the vineyards of their choice, and to eat at the restaurant of their choosing.
Maybe you will get the chance to come back and we can show you a few differnt ones.

Regards
Jenny

This wine tour was fantastic and our driver Paul made the trip very enjoyable. We didn't realize what great wines New Zealand had to offer. The whole tour was very well organized and one of our favorite stops was at one of the olive groves, It was one of the highlights of our trip. Cathy and Mary

Thanks for coming to NZ from Texas.!
One of the joys of being in Tourism is meeting people from around the world which is always fun.
Now we meet people who like wine as well. Our days out touring are always interesting and wine is the common passion for many of our visitors.
Glad you also enjoyed the olive oil, some of the best oil in the world as you discovered.
Lots of happy memories for you.

Regards
Jenny

We are big wine enthusiasts and we do a lot of winery tours, so this review is based on a comparison with all of those experiences. If you are less into wines and just want a nice tour of the island and a small sampling of wines, this tour would suit you well.
Our tour guide, Paul, met us at the ferry terminal. We have a couple more stops to pick up people. I think we had around 10 people total. Paul was very knowledgable about the island and showed us several points interest besides the wineries. He was fun to listen to.
The wineries of Wiaheke Island are small boutique wineries. We went to 3 wineries before lunch- Batch, Goldie and Cable Bay. We were fairly rushed for the wine tastings and no crackers or food was available to cleanse the palate between pours. We had 3-4 tastings at each winery. The quality of the wines was very good, and although I was tempted to buy something, the $40+ price tags were a bit steep for us. I'm not sure how it was decided, but some people went into town for lunch and some went to Mudbrick winery including us. It has a beautiful view and was quite elegant, but also quite pricey even by New Zealand standards. The presentation rather than the quantity of food prevailed. We probably would have done better going into town for lunch, but Mudbrick may suit others better. We could have done with less time at Mudbrick, less driving around the island and more time at the wineries.

HI,
We are always interested in feed back from people like yourselves who have done alot of wine tours in different regions and countries.
The itinerary is arranged so that you get to see some of the beautiful scenery as well as visit 3 vineyards before lunch and then at a fourth vineyard for a more leisurely wine tasting with lunch.
Where we can communicated directly with people before they come out on a tour we ask them for their preferred vineyards to visit and also their preferred lunch venue.
Sometimes where an agent has made the booking we dont always get this information so we make a booking on your behalf, so you dont miss out on a nice lunch option but you are free to change it on the day if it isnt to your liking.Your driver would have been very happy to take you to the village instead but this would have meant even less time at vineyards.
I agree it would be great if all the vineyards gave crackers with the wines. We have suggested it many times but cant seem to pursuade them that this is important. Sorry!!
The Gourmet Food and wine tour includes food and wine parings , olive oil, avocado oil, NZ cheeses and Waiheke oysters. Great for those who want food with their wine.
For the more serious wine lovers we suggest our Connoisseurs tour where you have the chance to talk to the wine makers and owners of the vineyards, set your own pace and visit the vineyards which interest you.
Glad you liked the wines and yes some are quite expensive. They are boutique wineries with a with a focus on quality rather than quantity.

Hope this at least answers some of your queries and some other people may have about our tours.

Regards

Jenny
