“Beautiful apartment with a great view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2014

We stayed at the apartment with two children. Our children are 8 & 11 but I think it would be suitable for any age. It was very clean and modern. Everything worked perfectly, including easy access to internet. Easy walk to the supermarket! 5 mins downhill - Good exercise to justify all he food and wine we ate.

The hosts were very helpful and friendly before the booking and whilst we were on site.

We used the pool as the sunset. What a view!

We would definitely go back. Next time may take the grandparents too and they can stay in the next door apartment.

We were greeted by Steve and Heide on our arrival, they were so friendly and welcoming showing us around the house, sorting out a cot bed for our baby(and a few toys) and giving some very useful information about the vineyards. We had such a great experience, lovely swimming pool, relaxing spa, stunning views and comfy stay. Highly recommended!

We had a great time! The hosts were welcoming and knowledgeable, the apartment was spacious and clean, and had everything we needed, with beautiful views and the heated pool and spa were amazing! Will definitely go back

The apartment was clean and tidy but rather basic. Great to have free wifi. The location was disappointing as we had envisaged being able to walk to the village for breakfast and dinner. A car was a necessity. Also disappointed that the view was quite limited from the apartment. Found it unusual that the hosts did not make any attempt to welcome us rather left a note on their blackboard with the key in the door. There was a problem with the shower stopping. Unusual that you had to pay to use the spa, never encountered this before.

Room Tip: Decide whether you want a room with a view and whether you want easy access to pool area, and then s...

Hi thanks for your review. We are very clear as to our location - on all of the marketing we do, If you wanted/needed to be walking distance to Oneroa then Oneroa would have been better suited. Frankly it is frustrating when a comment like this helps to give Le Chalet an average review - it really is the responsibility of the guest to book accommodation that is in a suitable location, your lack of research should not negatively impact our business. We are a small operation and care deeply about the services we offer.

In our confirmation email we provide details on spa-use etc. Quite often we do not charge for the spa-pool, we place a nominal charge on this item so that it is respected and so we can control for safety reasons when it is used.

Many guests who stay with us do not have cars, there is a good bus & Taxi service on the island, we also have two hire cars which are avail & Cycles for hire - so lots of options!! It all depends on your specific needs and how little or much you want to do on the island.

We always try and welcome guests and indeed sometimes see people staying with us many times during their stay. Sometimes our paths do not cross and we do not see our guests as they are out and about enjoying Waiheke. We leave a welcome board as a courtesy and to Welcome them, strange for this to be commented on in a negative light.
All the best
Steve & Heidi

We stayed in the Avignon apartment and I have to admit I was very disappointed with value for money. At +- $300 per night I expected amazing and I was not wowed! I have stayed in more amazing places for a lot less.
It was clean and tidy apart from some lipstick marks on some tea cups.
The "Kind Bed" configuration was actually just two king singles pushed together and the beds where rather uncomfortable. I also have to agree with one of the other reviews given regarding the noise. You can hear everything upstairs and the floor creeks so made it hard to sleep on the second night when upstairs where still awake walking around.
The shower leaves much to be desired with the pressure being non existent and shower head was awful. We also seemed to run out of hot water. May be an issue to look into.
We were advised to let the hosts know if we wanted to use the pool or txt them which we did and heard nothing back from them. I understand it needed to be locked for the children but feel for the price you pay a night it should not be limited to 90 mins per day. Most places you stay at you can use the pool at your leisure. Also I feel to charge $25.00 for an hour to use the spa on top of your room rate is ridiculous.
I am not normally one to complain but this would not be a place I would recommend for the price.
We came to stay for our one year wedding anniversary and I thought the place looked very romantic and gorgeous from the pictures but as I said was very disappointed.

Hi there thanks for your comments
Value for money is an interesting one, as we all have different perceptions of what we feel is good'value for money'. The apartment you stayed in has just been completely refurbished, has it's own balcony and is extremely spacious. On-site we also have a heated pool, spa pool etc so feel that if you compare Le Chalet to other providers on Waiheke- we offer very good value for money.

To address a few of your points:
1. We have never run out of ho water or had a lack of pressure - We have a dedicated large hot water tank for your apartment so I can only assume that you maybe had a very long shower?? On Waiheke all water comes from the sky and is precious. The shower head is 6 months old??
2. We are very clear what our pool guidelines are on all marketing ( even on our emails), so I am surprised that this was an issue. These are guidelines, we try to be as flexible as we can.
3.Apologies We were out when you texted about the pool, but the pool was open and you did have a swim when you wanted, so un-sure what the complaint here is?
4. We would have given you a FREE spa had we known you were here for a special occasion and/or a bottle of wine

We had a three night stay in the downstairs apartment (Bordeaux). It was tastefully furnished, well equipped and in a quiet location. Views were great. Unfortunately the soundproofing between upstairs and downstairs is poor. On two night there were other guests upstairs and although they were not particularly noisy the sound of voices, the TV and movement kept us awake until the early hours of the morning. It is a structural defect which should be attended to. The noise marred what would otherwise have been a most enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Stay upstairs only!

Hi thanks for your comments.
We are glad that you really liked the apartment and the views etc.
Please note that you stayed in our Avignon apartment not Bordeaux.
It is very difficult for any accommodation provider to 100% control noise levels from its guests, especially when they are on holiday having a great time. We have very good insulation form the top apartment to the apartment below and have had many many guests who have stayed and loved it!
A three star review and headline 'disappointing' seems a little harsh when you loved everything else about the apartment. I do wish you had spoken to us about this so we could have assisted you at the time. Regards Steve & Heidi

We stayed in Bordeaux room from Friday till Sunday morning, it was so lovely. Amazing views in a cozy apartment. Heidi is a helpful accommodating host. The heated pool was so relaxing and the privacy makes it so romantic. I loved every minute of my stay in that cozy, stylish and relaxing getaway.
