From the moment the door opened we knew we had chosen the right destination. The view over the pool could not be beaten anywhere.
The hospitality was welcoming and generous, discrete but always attentive. The house was truly amazing in its luxurious feel that leant itself to relaxation.
Fiona's canapé's and breakfast were simply delicious.
Peter's service as he delivered and collected us from various parts of the island made our stay thoroughly relaxed and seamless.

What an amazing location for a business team retreat. We spent 2 days here with full use of this beautiful property.
Not one thing was out of place - it was immaculate both inside and out. We used the kitchen facilities as a "master-chef" type competition which was a lot of fun and the dining room fulfilled the needs of a board room discussion.
Bearing in mind that our mgmt team travel to many amazing parts of the world we feel qualified enough to say that this is right up there in terms of one of the best stays one could have!!
We will definitely be back.

Hei Matau Lodge is the ultimate romantic beautiful lodge. Our three night stay left us speechless. From the moment we drove through the front gate, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The grounds are lush, well manicured and have the feel of a secluded yet charming and country setting looking out over the beautiful Cable Bay. We felt like royalty as the owners were there to greet us and offer a glass of crisp cold wine while viewing the grounds. Our suite was large yet cozy and beautifully appointed. Every detail was taken into account. We were served canapes with accompanying wines both inside and outside the lodge each evening by the wonderful hosts, Peter and Fiona. The food and the inclusive breakfasts were quite superb. We even asked Fiona for her closely guarded recipes to take home.
We will definitely be back!! Best wishes Hei Matau lodge...you have our accolades!

My visit in January set the tone for the next month I would spend in New Zealand: Everywhere I went, I met friendly people, ate good food, and discovered beautiful scenery. However, the property at Hei Matau sat a notch above everywhere else I stayed. Owners Peter and Fiona have turned their home into a stylish, world class inn that retains the comfortable feeling of being a guest at a second home of a chef and interior decorator.

Although they both had previous careers in different fields, Peter and Fiona have meticulously decorated the rooms and common spaces; Fiona works just as fastidiously in the kitchen, turning out divine creations each morning, on top of the splendid bowls of fruit, granola, and other offerings laid out for relaxed grazing.

Each evening, they host a wine hour accompanied by thoughtful bites. One night we had an older vintage of local Waiheke wine served with shot glasses of spicy, vibrant tomato gazpacho. Peter is building a wine cellar as well -- he'd likely show it to interested folks.

Just short of offering a chauffeur service, Peter graciously offers to drop people short distances at night into town or at local restaurants. I'd advise guests get their own car anyway -- there's a lot to explore on the island and the property does sit far off on one end of it.

Make sure to save time for a hike, or tramp, around the edge of the island and beaches. The scenery is beautiful and you can get a small workout, always appreciated when on a long overseas journey filled with food and wine.

My wife and I stayed at Hei Matau Lodge for our 10 year anniversary and we simply could not have wished for a better place to spend it. We're fussy people when it comes to accommodation, but we were blown away by the stunning views as you enter the property gates and it got even better when we reached the lodge. We were both amazed at the effort that Peter and Fiona had gone to in ensuring that everything we could possible need was there. They were the perfect hosts and the food in our opinion was better than the wineries! We were fortunate to have perfect weather during our stay, but with those views you couldn't fail to enjoy whatever the weather. The perfect weekend break. Thank you again Peter and Fiona, we will definitely be back!

We stayed at Hei Matau Lodge for 2 nights in January 2014 and had a fantastic stay- what a beautiful and comfortable home- those views!! Peter and Fiona are very very good hosts and will make your stay most relaxed... we arrived to some home made banana bread which set the standards very high.. but it just got better and better!! The best breakfasts we have ever had (tried to recreate them at home!) Great canapés and wine from the region too. Really really recommend Hei Matau Lodge for a relaxing and beautiful stay on Waiheke island. Thank you Peter and Fiona (London is not quite the same!) x

I wanted to surprise my husband with an amazing weekend away to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. Even before the booking was made Peter was brilliant, going out of his way to make the weekend prefect and prefect it was.
From the moment we arrived Peter and Fiona looked after everything, nothing was a problem and everything was a pleasure.
The lodge and the grounds we're truly magnificent. Our room was beautiful, made even more amazing at night by the magical turndown fairy.
Beautiful scenery, stunning walks, incredible food and amazing hosts all made our anniversary weekend truly special. We hope to return to Waiheke one day and when we do we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.
Thank you Peter and Fiona for having us in your gorgeous home.
