We went as a family ,four of us.Really enjoyed the whole experience.
Beautiful sea views and rolling hills with special granite boulders protruding out of the landscape .
My daughters boyfriend and I are interested in engineering etc and were amazed at how the whole site had been designed, engineered and constructed, especially in such an isolated place. The plaques and the mock gun barrel etc were really helpful.
We found the older lady at the tunnel entrance very helpful and gave us useful instructions along with the brochure.
The two pet sheep that were at the table with the older lady were so friendly and added a special touch.
We would thoroughly recommend this historic site to any visitors to our island, especially if you have an interest in historic places that have an early military background.

If you're a WW2 buff, this is an excellent place to visit. If you enjoy history, a nice walk and don't mind confine spaces either, make sure you pay a visit to the tunnels. Don't worry too much about bringing a torch - there are very good ones provided on site made by an enthusiastic volunteer, so it doesn't harm to pay a little and support their cause.

We went on Sunday and I thought I will pay the few $ for 3 of us to go through the tunnels. Originally I didn't want to as I'm clautrophobic. However, when we everntually got there - the walk there is pretty nice though - we were greeted by this really sour old lady. My husband asked her how to get where the guns use to be and she said "follow your nose up the hill". Wow...she didn't even respond to our greetings! So hubby started walking forward to go up the hill and she says "not this way, go around the building. We have erosion you know".

The group that came after us, about 10 mins behind us, had the same experience. Sad thing was, they were from USA and Canada and after the way she treated them, they weren't interested to pay any monty to go through the tunnels. Because of her attitude, they lost business that day alone of about 8 adults (from just 2 separate groups).

As we walked back to our car, there were more people going that way and I felt like warning them, but didn't. Not sure how many people actually did go through after being greeted by her like that.

A bit of an effort to get there but very interesting re the site and the volunteers. Be aware the tunnels are pitch black.

Was a bit of a walk to get to the actual location. But once we got there was definitely an interesting experience. The folks in charge of the place were lovely. The experience ended in typical "kiwi" fashion with some very friendly sheep who were keen for a cuddle.
