This is a little gem of a place. From an unassuming front, you are lead onto a cool and quiet courtyard - which is also is the main area for your meals - idyllic. The best part is Osmary & Alberto - charming hosts who really excel at looking after you. You get a drink straight away and chance to sit and admire the surroundings. They have about 7 rooms - all well equipped with comfortable beds, ensuite and air-con. I think we probably had the weakest room (more to do with our agent squeezing the price? We don't know) - it was the orange room at the front - lovely but very noisy - so ask for another one if you are a light sleeper. The breakfasts are great - a tray of fresh fruit (pineapple, guava, papaya, banana . . ) plus a whole pot of Cuban coffee (tea available) . . then you can order cooked (omelette's best), cake, bread, big cup of yoghourt . . . really healthy. We also ate there every night (3 nights) as the first was my birthday! Osmary baked me a wonderful cake (see pix) - so generous and very tasty.
The evening meals are probably excellent value when compared to outside restaurants. For only 10 cucs you get many courses - an amuse bouche (we had breadcrumbed fish eggs one night), a soup (one night was a meat and black bean soup - fantastic), then comes the main dish - choice of chicken/pork/fish- plain or special, also lobster (+2 cucs). After this is a small dessert - sweetened yam or sweetened coconut.
They also serve any drinks at any time - very accommodating indeed.
If you're out on a trip, Osmary will make up a packed lunch too.
The courtyard is an oasis - where they grow their own lemons and of course, mint for your mojitos. Thanks for a great 3 days holidays - the best "hotel" of our 2 week stay!
ps recommend the Parque Cubano for a short trip out - a bit pricey at 9 cucs each but a nice shady forest walk to a lake and a waterfall - chance to swim!
