During check-in, the Front Desk agent was extremely efficient. The Bellboy assisted us with our luggage and escorted us to the room. He gave us a brief orientation of the room and left. The room was perfect, with nice amenities placed on the table. All the staff in the hotel used our last name, even the Housekeeping staff we met in the corridor. A turndown service was also provided.
At breakfast, gracious welcomes and farewells were always provided. The staff checked our choice of seating. The range and selection of food was always attractively presented, flavorful and fresh. The breakfast buffet was impressive and varied
Check-out was an easy process with no delay. The Front Desk agent offered assistance with a map and showed us how to drive out of the city

This hotel is situated right on the square in Trinidad. We had room 103 that had a balcony that looked out over the square, so it was a great stay. The room was large, clean and comfortable. The fresh towels each day were folded into the shape of a swan and put on the bed. The bathroom was modern and clean. The food in the bar area was better than the food in the dining room.

Stayed for 2 nights as part of a tour of Cuba, unfortunately we drew short straw with room 116. Although the room is beautifully appointed it has french doors which open out for 1mt of small terrace then a 7 metre high wall .As a result the room is very dark - we had to keep the light on the whole time and just ended up with the curtains shut rather than look at a wall. Thisroom is at the back of the hotel which seemed to get a lot of noise at night.from the side road.
The hotel itself is beautiful inside and very similar to traditional Spanish hotels with a fountain/courtyard setting.
We had half board and found the food excellent.
This hotel was the only one of the 6 we stayed in which offered free internet access which was appreciated.

Room Tip: Visit Casa Trevon at night

This hotel is superb, everthing is first class. Our room even had a terrace overlooking the square. The room is made up twice a day with towels folded to swans etc, and rose petals are spread over the bed, very romantic.

Room Tip: beer is 3 cucs, get it from the corner shop for 1

Lovely big room overlooking the plaza. Very comfortable bed. Everything worked perfectly. Superb breakfast, excellent location and the only free internet (with good access) we came across in Cuba. This place is really well run. It would be perfect if they could install a pool, people would then stay longer I am sure. Minibar prices are high but turn right out of the hotel and there is a supermarket within 200m.

When you get out of the cab and walk into this hotel, you are going to be impressed. It has a beautiful lobby area. It also has a great pool and beautiful lanscaping. The rooms are decent and the beach is just a few steps away. The service is good, but the food is not that great.
The only gross food I had during two weeks in Cuba, was at this hotel.
The best things are the pina coladas and the desserts. They also offer room service and I found that this was better than either of the restaurant choices. The mini market in the hotel lobby is really cheap.

Dear Sir, on behalf of the staff of the Iberostar Grand Hotel Trinidad we are very sorry that you have had some bad experiences on your trip to Cuba, and we would like on your next trip to Cuba to choose Iberostar Trinidad to stay and enjoy .
The review that you sent may belong to another hotel as this hotel does not have the beach near the hotel, we do not have a pool, or a mini market in the lobby area.
Maybe you got confused by the name Trinidad.
Hope to have the chance to have you in our hotel next time you come visiting Cuba.
Sincerely
Juan Pablo Fortun
General Manager

Iberostar Grand Hotel was refurbished in 2006 and is just beautiful. There are refurbishing what is a currently a derelict building next door into another hotel – but this did not cause any noise. At the moment, the Iberostar is the place to stay in Trinidad if you want first class service. All the staff were fantastic and very friendly – it is small hotel with only 45 rooms which is lovely, other than one door man who was obviously trying to make a quick buck on the side.
One of our friends' had a birthday when we were staying there and they could not have been nicer, giving her a complementary bottle of sparkling wine, flowers etc. She wanted a room with a patio, not all rooms have balconies or terraces and they moved her at no charge to a room with a terrace, very efficiently.
The rooms themselves are very well set out and the bathroom is well equipped with all the toiletries you could need. No coffee or tea facilities provided unfortunately, but this seems to be the norm in Cuba.
Some of the earlier reviews spoke about noise from the square. We certainly did not find that to be a problem, but we were not there over the weekend. We were there for 3 nights and wished we have stayed longer.
Trinidad is a lovely colonial history and is one of the prettiest cities I have been to. The private Paladare restaurants are fantastic. The only problem, is that the meals are far too large and we ended up only eating half of what is served, which seemed a real waste. The owners of the paladares we went to could not have been more helpful and friendly and the settings are magnificent, with what is probably their heirloom furniture, glass and crockery on display.
The local cafes in the evening are a great place to hear some authentic Cuban music and dance, for just one CUC per person.
One thing to note is that some of the streets are cobbled – legacy of ballast which was brought with the ships who returned to Europe with sugar etc, and you need thick soled flat shoes, as the cobbles are very uneven. You also need a torch at night, as street lights are non existent .
We also visited Cienfuegus and Santa Clara from Trinidad, both very worthwhile, using a private taxi with an excellent English speaking driver, who also acted as a guide . The cost for the whole day , leaving at 9am and coming back at 6.30pm was 150 CUC total, which seemed a good deal to be in an air conditioned car, and spend the time in the places we wanted to see, rather than an organised tour.
The concierge at the Iberostar was also very good in suggesting Paladares to book for meals. It is worth booking through either your private guide or the concierge as we found one of the door men – noted above - at the Iberostar was obviously on the ‘take’ to try and get money from owners of Paladares. Also check that taxis are official, and not one of the door men’s ‘friends’ as we found one evening.
The only downside of Trinidad is the volume of hawkers, which constantly try to sell you cheap jewellery – just ignoring them was how we handled them
