“Nicely restored small hotel”
Reviewed 19 July 2011

With a name like this we were expecting something big and very grand so were pleasantly surprised to find a very nicely restored and relatively small building in a quiet square in Trinidad was where we would be staying. Staff are excellent along with the service although you will be surprised, if you turn up relatively late for meals, to find the staff start helping themselves to the buffet and sitting down to eat their own meals while you are still having yours. Rooms are well equipped and comfortable and the bathroom was a good size. The hotel is nicely furnished but more "in period" than modern. Breakfasts were really nice and dinner good, which was had to the accompaniment of a local Cuban group. No wifi but there is a free, but very slow, internet service close to reception. Trinidad isn't very big and can be walked around in an afternoon. If you don't want to walk then just grab a bike taxi. A cab to the nearby beach of Ancon is about US$6. We had dinner on our 2nd night in the Paladar Estelle (private home restaurant) and our meal, which translated as old rope lamb, was interesting and very cheap. At night they're dancing the salsa until the small hours in the bars up on the hill. We had two very relaxing days and nights at the Iberostar and really enjoyed our stay although one night would have been enough to take in Trinidad.

stayed for 2 nights at the Iberostar Grand and had a great sleep as the beds were so comfortable, 2 king size in a twin room. trinidad is so cultural and a different side to see from Guardalavaca and Havana.
the hotel combatted the fly situation we had found elsewhere by providing air con and having the doors/windows closed.
breakfast was about average, had better at the Sol de Rio in Guardalavaca, fresh fruit was fresher there! but on the whole a lovely hotel

The service we received in this hotel was exceptional, from the front desk folk who could not be more helpful, to the bar staff who were friendly, bright and professional.
The hotel rooms are excellent. The free wireless is slow, but not the fault of this fine hotel. A pool was the only thing we missed.

Room Tip: The best rooms on the first floor have balconies.

A perfectly good 3 or 4 star hotel by international standards. Our AC didn't work our first night and we were given a small suite the next. By Cuban standards, we thought the restasurant was first-rate.

This hotel really is an oasis in the city. It has a great location and the rooms are up to European standard. There is free wifi throughout the public areas which I didn't get at the other hotels and we stayed in good hotels so I really appreciated it. The beds were big and the rooms very clean. The hotel staff were really friendly. You won't be disappointed staying in the hotel. There is not much hotel parking but we could park on the street easily. The resturant was good but not amazing, but it was some of the best food we had in Cuba and comparatively very expensive.

Great hotel.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the square which was nice!

From the outside this hotel is not spectacular but step into the brass and tiled well lighted temperature controlled lobby and you start anticipating comfort. Rooms are large, and tastefully appointed with mini bar. CNN and ESPN plus free internet is a plus. Minibar prices are expensive for Cuba $3.00 for .60cent water. Food is the best available in the area but not spectacular; this is Cuba. Good central location and friendly staff.Hot water at all times and lots of it.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights, as part of our tour of Cuba. Trinidad is a fascinating town, where the cobbled streets haven't witnessed much change since the sixteenth century, hence its well deserved UNESCO World Heritage status. The hotel is comfortable and quiet, and the staff efficient although we did have to wait a while for our room to be ready upon arrival. Our room was enormous, with beautiful views out onto the square and the bathroom was spotless and fitted with a rain shower. The location is fantastic, therefore it was sad to see many tourists restricting themselves to eating and drinking solely in the hotel when there were many fascinating paladares (local, privately run restaurants) and live music venues only minutes away. Having said that, the breakfast buffet was good and the evening meal we had there excellent (albeit pricier than you would pay in town). The only negative points were that the hotel staff's knowledge of local opening hours was limited, and there is no outside space or pool. The beach (10 minutes drive away) was wonderful - almost as good as Varedero - and certainly much less 'spoilt' with many local families.

Room Tip: Facing the square
