Traveled here for a hiking trip in July with two other people. The drive from Bishop up into the White Mountains was just beautiful with expansive views of the Owens Valley and Sierra Nevada mountains. We drove to the Schulman Grove of Ancient Bristlecone Pine trees which is in a remote and high setting at 10,000 feet. There is a small visitor center here and plenty of parking. (Further up the road is another grove of trees but we did not have time as it is a 45 minute drive one way). We took the 4.5 mile round trip loop hike. There are a few other trails to choose from, this being the longest. I love to hike and this is one of my favorite hikes now. We walked along hillsides covered with bristlecone pines, some living and some dead. These are the oldest trees in the world, some are more than 4,000 years old and they are twisted, stunted and gnarled into interesting shapes and sizes. There are many fun photo opportunities with these trees and we spent three to four hours walking this trail. I fell in love with this place and the beautiful scenery. This is truly a treasure which I highly recommend. Don't miss this if you are any where near the area, especially if you enjoy nature!
