“Great despite the weather!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2013

Was hoping to hit some 12k peaks and trails but bad weather caused us to re-schedule to another area - despite our very short time here I can say I would return in an instant.

This is a haven for climbers, mountaineers, trekkers and photographers!!!

The views are awesome and we were blown away by the lakes and jagged peaks!!

“Heaven on Earth”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2012

As a mountain climber, I simply LOVE the Indian Peaks Wilderness. I have taken visitors here for their first time, and I love to watch their jaws drop at the scenery: Lakes, jagged peaks, snowfields, wildflowers. I have visited these mountains in every season and they have so much to offer: Coulior routes, scrambling, tundra-hopping, technical alpine rock, primo spring glissades, even alpine ice (not my thing, but maybe it's your thing). All of this is against the backdrop of stunning scenery.

“The Mountains of the Natives”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2012

This is a very beautiful attraction closer to Denver on route from Denver to RMNP.

Indian Peaks wilderness area is a beuatiful spot for scenics, wild life watching and Photography. This is also a renowned place for backcountry camping and back packing.

The mountains are named after the native clans and really scenic and hidden. The region is more nature bound and the skies can change the whole flash in a matter of time as you enjoy the place. Beautiful lakes and trails to explore and enjoy.

I highly recommend back country camping (Permits required) if possible to enjoy the wild life inside the woods. Permits are bound to grant under Roosevelt national forest. a true adventure/ wilderness experience!

“continental divide”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2003

Indian Peaks Wilderness Just below Rocky Mountain National Park.Is Indian Peaks Wilderness, this is a backpacking, mountaineering, trip. No place to stay but in your tent. This is life above tree line and the weather can change as fast as you can walk 50 feet. Our trip started at Middle St. Vrain trail head, and went all the way to the Continetal Divide. Go in July if you don't want to see a lot of snow, most of this trip is above 9000 feet and you will hit 12000 feet if you go on top of the Continetal divide, this is not the Continental Divide Trail. This trip is not for the lite hearted or the novice backpacker. Go prepared even in summer, take warm clothes, rain gear, rain, sleet, snow and high winds can come up very fast Have a GOOD trip!!!!
