“Nice lake”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2013

Stopped by here looking for a place to walk the dog. For all their outdoorsyness Idaho and Montana are seriously lacking in places to take care of our four-legged companions. Most state parks either are for fishing or launching boats, or they simply don't allow dogs if they have any walking paths.

Driving to Yellowstone and looking for a place to stop we found this state park. It mostly caters to people wanting to fish, launch boats, or camp, but did have a few walking trails available. We found a nice paved one that also lead us to some nice vistas towards the lake as well. There wasn't much shade but I guess it served its purpose.

“Drive is beautiful, but don't expect the Red Rocks National Wildlife Refuge to Care!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2013

We thought it would be of great interest to our children to take a ride to Henry's Lake and visit the Red Rocks National Wildlife Refuge, which is known for its wildlife refuge and habitat to help the trumpeter swan from becoming extinct.

The drive is beautiful. We saw many prong horns along the route, as well as many wildflowers and captivating mountains. It took about 45 minutes to get to the visitor center. Once we arrived we were greeted by ... no one. The woman who worked there didn't even acknowledge our presence. So, although the views are beautiful, don't expect to be educated or feel welcome when you arrive. We didn't see any other wildlife, aside from those "displayed' in the visitor area.

Big disappointment.

“Want big fish? This is the place!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2013

Henry's Lake is surrounded by beautiful green mountains, only 15 minutes away from West Yellowstone. They are known for the large fish that can be caught. Fishing can be done by boat or along the shore. There are a couple of campgrounds which looked very nice, though the immediate area around the lake is somewhat barren of trees, including the campgrounds. Despite this, I wouldn't hesitate to camp there when we have the chance! The facilities we used were clean, and the staff around the boat dock very friendly. Nice, relaxing place to visit!

“Love the State Park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2012

Stayed at Henrys Lake State Park dozens of times. Always a great place to stay close to Yellowstone. Clean facilities. I go for the fishing. As with all fishing - it can be hit or miss, but love the area. It is frequently windy at Henry's, so beware of flimsy tents.

“Beautiful High Mountain lake near Yellowstone”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2008

We stayed in this wonderful Idaho state park a couple of nights while on a week long camping trip, this park was near West Yellowstone and was not crowded at all. The spots were large, however not much privacy because of the lack of trees. The rangers at this park were VERY helpful. The lake has great fishing, but don't go swimming because apparently there is leaches per the ranger. The Campground bathrooms were clean however the shower heads were right next to the wall, use the handicapped shower if you dont want to touch the wall while showering. There is not much to do except fish, hike and camp, worked well as a central location to tour Yellowstone.
