Excellent scenery during the fall season. Countless number of poets and authors have penned their thoughts, and I need not be another :). Just go there and the bliss of nature. The collage of colors mesmerize the mind and the spirits. Take the cog rail trip up Mt Washington. GET TICKETS ONLINE as that is a very very busy attraction. Stay in the local family run and independently owned inns to "feel" the charm of the locale...have good food in Glen Junction and have a wonderful time. The Kancamagus Highway is worth taking and so is the whole 113-302 loop. Literally....don't miss it. Soak in nature!

Took the family including a 2 year old and a 4 year old. We went to the Kancamagus highway and the Flum Gorge and took a cable car to the top of the mountains. What a view and such beautiful water falls. We also went to the Polar caves on our return. We stayed at the Profile Motel and had a great time.

I will never forget my brisk hikes in the colorful and photogenic White Mountains. This area is cool in summer, though be prepared for mosquitoes. It is sumptuous and super-chromatic in fall. I really enthuse about this area, including the National Forest and the parks.

I went to White Mountains to enjoy Falls in the third week of October which is though not so-called the ideal time to see fall but we luckily got to get some good colours taking the right paths.
By the time we reached, Kancamagus Highway lost its charm but the Bear Notch Road which is prior to the Kancamagus Highway fulfilled our wishes. It was so beautifully colorful.
We also enjoyed the Conway Scenic Railroad through the fall foliage sitting in the dining car ($35 each) of the heritage train of North Conway. We took the 55 minutes ride. The lunch served in the dining car was ok-ok. If one wants to take the ride in late October like us then coach ($15) is never an option as it has open windows. 1st-class for 19$ is best if one is not interested in food but dining car is an experience itself!
There is a restaurant adjacent to the North conway station which serves very tasty food at a cheap price.
Margarita Grill in Barlett is also a good restaurant. It has got a country-side feeling. The scallop dish was awesome.
If one wants to visit Mount Washington as well it should be visited first as there is high chance of snowfall there towards the end of fall. In 2013 snowfall started there on 20 Oct.
The cherry on the top of our trip was our log cabin (River and Pines Condominiums) on the shores of the Ellis River in Bartlett. Barlett itself has very nice colurs all around.
