If you've got the opportunity, definitely visit the White Mountains.
Coming from the UK we flew into Boston and drove up the I-93 to get here easily. We stayed in North Woodstock, which was great because the river has a small cascade there that you can tube down -no charge, just at your own risk so make sure the water level is high enough.
It's also a great base because it's so easy to get to everything from here. We did zip wiring, walked up the Flume, visited the Polar Caves, walked through Lincoln Woods, went on the Cannon Mountain aerial tramway, drove across the Kancamagus highway to do Sabbaday Falls, the boulder loop, boulder gorge and the Colbath historic house, went up Mt Washington etc. etc. Plenty to do and no complaints from the teenagers! Would love to see it in autumn with all the beautiful colours and also in winter to see how dramatic it must look.
