Owner description: Popular 'road drive', along the Colorado River.

I never would have thought a highway would make the reviews, but good thing it did.

I was mapping out our trip to Moab from Chicago and noticed this road that went from 70 all the way into Moab. Google maps was taking us around, but I thought it would be nice to follow the river. As we were going through some national parks along the way, the ranger was even telling us about it. The views were spectacular and give you a while different perspective driving in the canyons.

If you are planning your route, don't leave this out.

As we know, you can't see America from the interstate, we took highway 128 into Moab from I-70. Little did we know what was in store for us. As we started driving south on Hwy 128 we are greeted by an mangy pronghorn staring at us as if we are entering a "B" rated horror movie. Feeling like this would be just another bypass, we didn't know what was in store for us. We started out driving through the desert and passed a few farms as we drove south. Around 10 miles you start seeing bluffs on the horizon and when you pass the cross over the bridge and Colorado River the scenery drastically changes. Our jaws drop in awe as the highway parallels the river with majestic mountains on both sides. Driving through this valley, there are recreation areas along the river. Kayakers and paddle boarders wave as you drive by. This is one of the most scenic drives we have ever been on. Feels like we were in a National Park, and it's FREE. Bypasses like this give a better impression of what America is all about. Go out and see the "Real America"

Incredible! ... we were heading to Moab from Colorado and decided to take this route into town rather follow I-70 WB to the SR 191 exit (Utah Exit #182). If heading WB out of Colorado, stop in Fruita, CO at I-70 Exit #18 (I think), fill up the gas tank, get a couple of beverages, use the potty, and enjoy the scenery from there. From Fruita, travel WB on I-70 to Utah Exit #204 (SR 128), and follow the signs to Moab. From Fruita, it was about a 75 minute ride with NO services of any kind (gas, food, etc.) between the two (2) places.

The scenery along SR 128 between I-70 and Moab, especially the closer you get to Moab, is incredible. The mountains of red rock, the various rock formations, the wildlife, and just everything about the drive is beautiful. For a good chunk of the ride, the Colorado River follows along SR 128; the river was full of boaters, rafters, and swimmers on the day we traveled by it.

It's tough to put into words the beauty of what we saw. ... just 'do it', and enjoy.

We drove the 44 miles of the Scenic Byway 128 Highway from Grand Junction, Colorado on the way to Moab and it was quite spectacular, especially near the Moab end. The byway parallels the Colorado river passing the old Dewey Bridge, Fisher Towers, Castle Valley, Professor Valley and Big Bend. It is quite a lovely drive and much better than just driving on the Interstate.

On our way out of Moab / Arches NP and heading for Colorado, we decided to take the "Scenic Byway" of route 128 alongside the Colorado River on Route 128 back to I-70. This is a beautiful drive and much better than the route on the west side of the park we came down on. Took about a hour to drive the 40 or so miles but well worth it! Nickname of the road is "Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Pwky? and the buttes and canyons along the way are definitely a geology lesson!
