Owner description: The National Building Museum tells the stories of the world we design and build. We’re one of the most family-friendly, awe-inspiring spots in Washington, D.C. The Museum offers something for everyone, from children to design buffs to building professionals. Learn about the Museum’s historic home during a free docent-led tour, offered daily. Docents also lead tours of exhibitions. Our 75-foot Corinthian columns are the country’s tallest.

“Excellent for a venue...”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

...was a little limited as a museum. I was there for the Brewers Association "SAVOR" tasting and education event. This hall was amazing, and the BA had done a remarkable job transforming the hall to fit the gala. I was thoroughly charmed and some vistas were inspiring. The balcony surrounding the hall with the massive columns made my night. And I think the timing, evening into night enhanced the setting. I will plan to return next year. This is about the hall but the Savor event and the beers were true artistic treasures.

“Not as good as other museums”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

With limited time in DC we made the mistake of coming here. Yes, the building is interesting to look at, but I didn't get much out of the exhibits and my kids who rarely find things boring wanted to leave very quickly. I thought that since we were there already we should at least try to make the most of it. We could have spent more time elsewhere. I would not recommend coming here, especially if you only have a few days in DC. Sorry to all the hard working folks who work there.

“Good for families with young children”
Reviewed 14 April 2014 via mobile

This review is for families with children under 6 years old. If you're looking to take a break from all the touristy stuff and need to let the kids have fun, this is a place for you. They have two interactive areas for kids. The Build Work Play is fun with lots of blue foam pieces to build lots of stuff with three separate areas to let kids unwind. The Building Zone is for younger children and you have to reserve a 45 minute session. I would not recommend the museum cafe, but would work in a pinch if you need something to drink or can't wait to eat somewhere else. There's plenty of seating in the lobby if you bring your own food. Went with two 5 year old boys and they had a great time.

This museum is the most overrated museum in the entire DC and should be free. It is not worth paying for.

“Take the tour!”
Reviewed 16 March 2014 via mobile

The building is visually impressive but only becomes fascinating after the free docent lead tour. It takes about 45 minutes and is filled with information that makes both the architecture and the history of the building come alive. The tour is also the only way to get on to the fourth floor catwalks. The exhibits are a nice distraction while waiting for the tour to begin.
