It is truly an honor to be able to visit the home of the president of the free world. So much history in that house. The tour is not guided but all the staff in each room has vast knowledge so you can ask and they are very friendly.
You must reserve tickets online and it can take about 3 months to get an appointment. But once we did it is worth the Washington trip just for that.
One important note there is no bathrooms available inside you will have to leave the premises to use one.
Hope to take the grandchildren one day.
Real proud to be an American

Thank Israel H

Did the interior tour and walked through history- I really liked it. Even more I liked walking the perimeter reflecting on all the demonstrations, and activities which have taken place for our freedoms we know today.

Many years ago we booked to visit the White House but there was a power outage and they cancelled it.

Now you can only book in 2 ways. If you are a foreigner, you can contact your embassy. The British Embassy in Washington were not interested. If you are a USA citizen then you contact your representative. My son who is a USA citizen contacted his representative who put us on the White House waiting list.

The White House e mails you 2 weeks before the date and lets you know whether you have tickets. I suggest you plan months ahead.

We were lucky to get tickets and it was very interesting. All the rooms are used by the President and were not just for display. It’s a self guided tour and you are given a leaflet with a lot of interesting information in it. Also in each room there’s a Secret Service agent who is willing to answer any questions.

Obviously there’s high security and there’s a lot of things that you can’t take there including a bag (purse) and a camera but you can take photos on your phone with no flash. They advise you about the banned items before you go..

We would love to know how life is inside, as our local guide Adam told us so much about what's happening, how it was in the past and now with Trump. The president characters seem to be very different. Unfortunately we had cloudy weather and there was no chance to take good pictures. But the tour was nice, we booked him online.

As a child I did the tour and later remember the tour being guided. This tour was self-guided which worked well for my small children. Still wish we could see more of the White House, the tour is very limited.
