Owner description: A 19-foot bronze statue of perhaps the most esteemed founding father sits beneath a columned rotunda in the style of the Roman Pantheon.

I don't get around as well as I used to and the walk from our bus dropped us off was kind of long. That said I would not have missed standing in front of the statue of Jefferson. Few figures made as significant an imprint on this country and it is worth the time and effort to visit his memorial.

We didn't actually go to the Memorial as it is out of the way but saw it from a boat ride on the Potomac River.

An impressive monument. On the lower level there are book shops and exhibits concerning Thomas Jefferson. Read many of the writings on the walls. Got an impression that the great man wasn't all that great. He seemed to in two minds about slavery and its consequences. Whatever the merits and demerits of the man the monument was grand and eye-catching, situated on the banks of the reflecting pool.

My husband & I agree that the location of the Thomas Jefferson memorial just at the edge of the Tidal Basin is stunning. What a fitting, tasteful monument to a great man it is. Always impressive, it is particularly so at dusk & at night when it is illuminated so that you can see the statue of Thomas Jefferson in the middle of the beautiful dome shaped marble cupola. Magnificent & a must see when you visit Washington DC. There is a gift shop on site as well.

The Jefferson Memorial is such a graceful looking monument that it draws you up the steps and into the open air rotunda. The beautiful quotes of Jefferson are inspiring. We are so fortunate to have had such a man who contributed so much to the intellect and heart of our country. We saw this on a nighttime tour of the monuments and thought it was beautiful both by day and night. We walked back another day after seeing the FDR Memorial just to enjoy the trip around the Reflecting Pool.
