Owner description: A 19-foot bronze statue of perhaps the most esteemed founding father sits beneath a columned rotunda in the style of the Roman Pantheon.

Jefferson's statue and memorial over the tidal basin are beautiful, but for me, it is the words on the walls that really demonstrate the foundations of our country perhaps better than any other monument. We love the old town trolley tours, and you can stop here for a short visit in between the next trolley arrival. Worth it.

One cannot miss this memorial on the Central Mall. On the very first day of my stay in Washington DC I visited this place, right after Washington monument, from where it is a walking distance. This monument is patterned on Pantheon in Rome and an excellent piece of architecture. The huge statue of Jefferson, the third US President is good to look at. Pieces of his speech are written on the monument wall. Down below is a good museum. This monument is so attractive that one likes taking its photograph from all over. Loved my visit to this monument and would love to come again and again. Must visit for everybody.

One of the most spectacular memorials in town for one of the greatest presidents, patriots and scholars the nation has ever produced. The design reflects that of the stunning Rotunda of the University of Virginia that Jefferson founded and designed.

This is one of those places you have seen from a distance on TV and in the movies. From close up you don't see the beautiful, famous silhouette, but you see the statue of Mr. Jefferson and some incredibly interesting quotes -- take the time to read them. Take a few minutes and sit on the steps facing the pond and enjoy the view of central DC and other monuments. Consider walking around the pond to the understated and lovely FDR Memorial.

Many toruists visit Washington D.C. and visit the Lincoln Memorial, the WW-II Memorial, The Washington Monument but never make it to the south side of the Tidal Basin to the Jefferson Monument. What a shame - its is grand and well worth a visit.
Like in the Lincoln Memorial, a figure of Thomas Jefferson is the centerpiece (albeit standing) with quotations on the walls from reflecting his great wisdom and forward thinking. The United States might be an entirely different place were it not for Thomas Jefferson and a visit to this memorial should be on anyone's "A" list when coming to D.C.
BTW: The view of the Washington Monument across the Tidal Basin is stunning!
