Owner description: Emotionally stirring memorial pays tribute to the men and women who served in one of America's most controversial wars.

The Vietnam Memorial lists the names of our fallen heros in the order they gave the ultimate sacrifice. If you visit at night, you can see your own reflection in the polished wall. I've visited many times and always found it a somber and moving experience

This is the most elegant and serene of the memorial installations on the National Mall. In my opinion, its simplicity goes to the heart of what a monument should be: to record the names and summon the spirit of those who sacrificed everything.

The memorial was designed by a Chinese American. Unlike the traditional war memorials, this one has a concept of an opening wound in the earth to symbolize the gravity of the loss of the soldiers. I understand that some tourists have difficulty finding it as it isn't built on ground level. Like the idea of highly reflective wall. When a visitor looks upon it, his or her reflection can be seen with the engraved names, bringing the past and present together.

With four kids in tow-- it is hard to keep them corralled and quiet-- but even my four became reverent as we passed through the memorial.

I visited the wall at night. Very emotional what this wall represents. Do not miss this Memorial on your visit to DC.
