“See the monuments in a new way”
Reviewed 16 April 2012

Bike and Roll is a great way to explore DC and see the monuments; I found the rental to be reasonably priced. They had a medium sized bike for the 10 yr old and a small kids bike for the 6 yr old. We enjoyed ourselves as best we could, on a busy spring Saturday. Unfortunately, DC is just so crowded, all the time. I would recommend Bike and Roll - biking is fun, the mall is a great place to bike, the Tidal Basin has a great path circling the water. But- DC is always so darn crowded. Its hard to enjoy biking when you have to share the path and navigate around walkers. If you are going to bike, I highly recommend going off-peak. A weekday, spring or fall. Saturday in the summer, you just aren't going to have as much fun biking.

“Biking the sites”
Reviewed 16 April 2012

We rented 4 bikes and one bike tandem attachment from Bike and Roll. The staff was prompt, courteous and helpful about sizing/fitting our bikes. The bikes were in great condition. They gave us helmets, locks and even a flat tire fix kit (that we never used). They were even so kind as to advise us to rent for 2 hours (instead of the half day or full day) b/c they could always add time on but couldn't refund our money if we came back early. It worked out great.

“Bike to Mt. Vernon”
Reviewed 13 April 2012

When I came across the Mt. Vernon Bike and Boat rental, I knew we had to do this. Get your bikes in Old Town Alexandria (a bit of a walk from the Metro station) and bike the 9-10 miles to Mt. Vernon on a well maintained path following the Potomac River. There are several places to stop and take in the views. It is an easy trail with some small hills. (Disclaimer: we live at 6000' and mountain bike) The last and steepest hill brings you to the Mt. Vernon parking lot (I suspect many will push the bike up this hill). Lock your bike at the bike rack (bring the key with you). Tour Mt. Vernon. Catching the boat back allows a good photo op of Mt. Vernon and a relaxing narrated tour back to Old Town. After dropping the bike lock keys to the office, we walked the side streets of Old Town while contemplating where to have dinner. Overall, I nice break from the walking and standing and crowds in the museums and on the Mall.

There is a Safeway grocery store a few blocks from the bike shop to pick up food for a picnic along the way.

“Just great!”
Reviewed 13 April 2012

This really was the hilight of our recent trip to Washington DC and just a great way to see the city and learn of its history and about the sights. More than that, it's a great way to keep children engaged where otherwise they would have 'bored' and made things arduous. Great bikes, good company and superb commentary..

“Just do it!”
Reviewed 13 April 2012

We were just in DC visiting with family. We hired bikes to tour the national monuments and found this by far the best way to see them. The Bike and Roll people were amazingly helpful, pleasant, charming and lots of other good stuff. Bikes are in great condition, come with helmets and D locks and the hourly rate is just great. Bike and Roll rocks!
