Owner description: The Washington Monument elevator is closed until spring 2019.

Learned in the Smithsonian Geology and Gem exhibit (Mining) that the very top piece was made of aluminum, which was as valuable or more so than silver when it was constructed. We were happy to get many glimpses of the monument as we toured the city. Sadly, it was closed for an electrical upgrade so we had to just enjoy the exterior.

Impressive- I should have made the trip years ago. The mall has great green space with the reflection pool adding a special character.

Amazing visit with family! Loved every minute and will definitely return! Entire walk about 7 miles without tours inside.

The Washington Monument is a national treasure that I get to see everyday. It is gorgeous on sunny days and cloudy days! It is majestical and a reminder of how powerful DC is!

Inside touring was not available because they were repairing the elevator. It was fun to see the different color of the marble where work was suspended from 1854 to 1877. Our first day sightseeing, we came out of the Metro at Federal Triangle and up to 14th, I looked right to this obelisk that is the world's tallest stone structure, and left to the Capitol at the far end of the Mall, and was just thrilled to be in our nation's capital.
