“If you can't see all the Museums; stop here”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

The Smithsonian "Castle," as it is called, is a really wonderful old building. Just looking at it from the outside is a great experience. The architecture is so unique. Inside are displays from all the Smithsonian Museums plus the history of how the museums were started. We ate at the small restaurant/deli and it was very good lunch. There is a gift store and there are many places to just sit and rest while looking at wonderful displays. I enjoyed it as I could get a flavor of all the museums; especially the ones we just did not have the time to tour. And, as with all the Smithsonian Museums there is no charge to visit.

“Not a lot to see”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

This is the iconic building you usually see in pictures depicting the Smithsonian. There isn't much in this building for exhibits but it does have a nice gift shop with reasonable prices and is a good place to get info on all of the other museums.

It's where it all began. Get the info you need to make the most of your smithsonian experience. Started us on the right path and made sure we had directions and times for all other blogs.

“Apparently closed right now”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

We went there wanting to see it, but it was locked up & apparently closed for construction & renovation. The exterior looks like a castle & is marvelous. I cannot wait to return & see what awaits us on the inside.
