Owner description: One of the world's greatest art museums is comprised of two buildings: one holds paintings from the 13th through the 18th centuries and the other exhibits modern art.

If art is your thing? This is the place to be. I was more taken by the West building itself in all its grandeur, where most of the old paintings and sculptures were. Works from Titian Danaë and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo are on display although the former is for a limited time only.

The East building that houses more of the contemporary or modern art such as Matisse is closed for renovations till the year 2016. It's a good place to be if you have nothing else planned as you could lose yourself in the moment. Plenty to see plus it's like a maze in there so you wanna keep kids close.

They had a great selection to view and enjoy. The collections were grouped well but could have used more clear direction to specific artists.

Great collection of Impressionist art. Matisse-Cassatt exhibit was a little disappointing, more prints than paintings, but still well worth seeing. Should be top of your list of DC museums.

Check for excellent traveling exhibitions. Enjoy the underground waterfall and cafe in the basement. Good gelato. A pleasant afternoon, and it's free!
