Its hard to believe that the mall was planned and organized with such great thought for initial memorials and future memorials and museums. Everything is so easy to find. I love the view from the Washington Memorial in both directions. It really gives you the full perspective!

Full of history and aweinspiring. A great way to really get a feel for our country and our Government. Also a great way to see, in person, so many of the sites that are shown on television and in the news.

Everyone should take one week and visit.. Everything from the National Archives to Jefferson`s Memorial etc. there is so much to see and learn about this great country. Words alone cannot express the emotional roller coaster as you go from reading the walls at the Lincoln Memorial to reading the names at the Vietnam Memorial. This should be a bucket list item. I highly suggest you visit the National Parks Service`s National Mall & Memorial Parks website as well as TripAdvisor for information about things to do while here. Just remember parking is free on weekends at the Metro Rail as well as in D.C. itself. I would also suggest if you`re not familiar with the area that you stay at a hotel near one of the Metro Rails outer stations and take the Metro Rail to and from the National Mall. You will want to also use one of the many bus services that takes you within easy walking distance of just about everything.

My husband & I spent a gorgeous weekend walking the National Mall areas from the Washington Monument to the WW II Memorial, by the Reflecting Pool on to the Lincoln Memorial, past the DC War Memorial, over to the Korean War Veterans Memorial, then to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, past the Constitution Gardens, next to the area known as the Ellipse, walked past the Art Museum of the Americas, past the National Red Cross building, past the Corcoran Gallery of Art, stopped to take photos especially of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, then stopped at the gates of the White House. Finally, after lunch at the Occidental Grill & Seafood outside cafe, we strolled to see the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.
There are a lot of parks, food vendors along the streets and areas just to stop and rest on the grass if need be. There is a lot of walking...so wear your MOST comfortable shoes and there are some restrooms in the areas of most of the monuments. There was a crowd in all of the areas where the museums and monuments are located. NO PUBLIC PARKING anywhere...you have to try and find a place to park along the roads...good luck because we road around for one solid hour trying to find a spot and got caught up in the very slow traffic around 18th street and the Secret Service police had some access roads blocked off and the traffic was going "no where!"
