I love American history and art so this place is total candy for me. This place is not the stuffy museum it used to be and totally draws the viewer in.

This museum has so much more than just portraits. It recently had an exhibit titled The Art of Video Games, as well as an Amelia Earhart exhibit. There is also a large collection of work dating back to Colonial America. Each piece is well labeled and tells a story, thereby bringing the portrait to life. Allow at least 2 hours!

Off the National Mall and conveniently located right across the street from a Metro Stop, we love this museum. The permanent collection of past Presidents is always a welcome stop for visiting friends and family while the rotating collections are always new for us. That makes it a perfect stop for everyone. If you go, allow plenty of time. There is a lot to see (and don't skip the upper floors!) Dinner afterwards at Matchbox always completes the visit.

Loved this museum, one of my favorites besides Air & Space. Knowledgeable docents, thoughtful layout and the exhibit on the presidents and War of 1812 was very informative. Attached to the American Art Museum. Covered Atrium cafe was one of the nicest gathering places for a lunch and coffee in all of DC. Could have stayed all day!

We visited twice because there was so much to see and enjoy at this museum. The kids will love it and adults will smile and re-read the details behind the photos. It was interesting to see portraits that look like they were actually camera-taken pictures. Interactive stations available and the history and evolution of video games is just amazing. Go see.
