“Lovely hotel, very friendly staff.”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

We booked this hotel on Hotwire, we chose the secret deal and were very pleased with our choice. The hotel is in a great location, within a short walk to the Union station. Hotel staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make us welcome. We arrived late at night and were offered a glass of wine on arrival. Our room was well appointed with 2 Queen sized beds which were very comfortable. We joined the free Kimpton in touch loyalty programme prior to arriving and received free wifi and $10 value to raid the mini bar, they also have face book promotions and secret codes which open up other treats. Each night they have a free wine reception in the lobby where you can mingle with other guests and swap travel stories. We ordered room service a couple of times, but found it to be very expensive. The rooms all have a coffee pod machine which is a nice touch. We had to buy our own milk and tea bags are available at recption if you don't drink coffee. We foud a great place to eat breakfast called the Corner Bakery and Cafe, it is located 2 doors from hotel. They serve food all day and the prices were very cheap. We also ate a a great Irish pub in the street behind the hotel called The Dubliner Pub.

The Hotel George has it all. Reasonably priced. Great location near The Capital and a 3 minute walk from Union Station (along with its many places to eat). I booked two rooms and both were very clean and well kept in every way, with clean linens and comfortable bed, roomy and clean bathrooms and functioning A/C. The staff was extremely helpfull and pleasant and that includes front desk, reservation desk , bell desk, housekeeping and management. Their checkout time is a reasonable 12pm and the hotel is tastefully decorated and offers a nightly wine reception. My two night stay included all the above plus we were allowed to check in way before the stated check in time, and we received a complimentary upgrade without even asking. I'd like to add that one of the employees, Clayton, went extremely out of his way to make sure that an item I had lost on my trip was returned to me safe, intact , and promptly. Thank you. I'm not even sure what more I could want of a hotel.

This hotel has lovely rooms, the best bathrooms, and a wonderful restaurant. Convenient to all forms of transportation and easy walking distance from Capitol Hill. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Housekeeping is spotless and generous. Some hotels skimp on towels and soap if your stay is more than a night. Not Hotel George! I will stay here again.

We walked out of Union Station, made a few right turns and found ourselves walking straight for Hotel George. Once we spotted it, while in a crosswalk, a well dressed and friendly man whom had just given a pair of women directions happened to be walking along side us. He asked if we were going to the hotel, and mentioned it was a great choice. He also happened to work there. As we approached the front door Clayton asked if he could take our bag in for us. Turns out he had not even started working yet, but he was willingly helping guests. Wow!

We were a few hours too early to check in and no rooms were available, so we left our bags and headed out to explore. The reception desk attendant offered us a map and off we went. We decided to grab a quick lunch and join a DC Ducks tour. Upon completion of the tour we returned and found our room ready. Clayton, who was now working, checked us in within minutes. Israel located our bags and delivered them to our room where he promptly set out the luggage rack, and ensured everything was functional prior to leaving. We requested a corner room away from the elevators, extra pillows, and NY Times newspaper daily delivery via our loyalty program profile. All our requests were granted!

The room, 520, was spacious with a lovely marble bathroom featuring both a stand alone tub, and marble shower. The shower was comfortable for two adults showering together. The only complaint, if you even call it that- the bathroom lacked a ventilation fan and therefore we had to shower with the door ajar. Not a huge problem as I suppose you could also open the window rather than the door but it could be improved upon.

The king size bed was firm, and aptly covered with soft and cool sheets and a duvet. The pillows were some of the best hotel pillows we have ever slept on! They actually did not flatten out upon one laying their head on them.

The room was outfitted with ample electrical outlets both at each nightstand and the desk. The closet space was suitable for two adults sharing the space for multiple days. The robes, although we did not use them, were a nice touch. As were the buy if you must socks. The attention to detail and most of all the guest's comfort and care were very obviously a high priority for the staff. From the umbrella available in room to the daily complimentary wine reception it was clear to us, that they focus on making your stay the best. If you enjoy running the hotel has a list of trails with mileage available for you. There's even a yoga mat for in room use. (See what I mean? They've thought of everything for you!) If you forgot something and it isn't a standard item they stock, they run out to grab it for you. (At your cost of course.)

On our first night we attended the wine reception where Clayton offered us a glass of white sangria, red wine, or DC Braw beer in four different varieties. We had a glass of sangria and a beer between the two of us. The lobby area was filled with guests enjoying complimentary refreshments, chatting, and sharing travel experiences. In the brief time we were there we learned travelers from as far as Australia and England were amongst the guests chatting with others. After one drink we decided to head out to explore a bit more. Israel briefly shared his favorite dancing spot with us, albeit we never did go check it out. Each night we returned to the hotel after spending all day exploring the city, Israel would welcome us back and ask about our day in a truly genuine way.

The attached restaurant, which we did not try, was always full of patrons. From families enjoying their meal all fresco on the small patio area to what appeared to be business travelers they kept the place packed! You can also order room service from them using the in room provided menu.

Hotel George, with its convenient location near Metro stations, bus lines, and tour buses loading areas is great for your stay in the nation's capital. Considering all the choices you have for a stay I would highly recommend Hotel George, as they are highly skilled in assuring your comfort while you stay with them. From the in room mini bar, which you can raid (up to $10) free on each visit (join the loyalty program), to the way their staff goes the extra mile for their guests, you will not regret staying here. This hotel is well managed, well maintained, well decorated, well situated, and well worth your stay! In case you need another reason to help you decide, the views of the Capitol Building, especially at night are great nearby Hotel George!

We stayed at the George 5/31-6/3. It was a great hotel. The location is right near Union Station as well as various subway and bus lines. It is also a quick walk to the Capitol building and the bell hop can grab you a taxi in a heartbeat if you so chose. Outside of the airport we used public transportation or our feet to get around... Word to the wise, wear comfortable shoes or sneakers. It is a walking town and "comfy" sandals became my worst enemy, this coming from a New Yorker.
After reading reviews about the hotel I requested a room on a high floor, and the hotel easily accommodated me. We stayed on the 7th floor, and though we over looked the main street in front it was quiet. The room was clean and spacious for the 2 of us, and had a huge bathroom. There is a wonderful Irish pub around the corner where we ate lunch the first day. Actually there are 2, we went into the smaller, less crowded one and had a DELICIOUS meal. There is a bakery on the corner and a French Bistro as a part of the hotel. Both pretty good. Also, it is free to become an InTouch member and with that you get free wi-fi. Definitely join when you book your stay. Again... Free.
Having stayed with Kimpton once before, I was looking forward to their wine reception and I was not disappointed. On our final night there we met another couple and enjoyed ourselves so much that we were given another bottle to drink with our new friends after the wine hour to continue our little party. I guess we livened up the lobby. Its these little things that make stays wonderful and memorable.
The front desk and bell hops were always friendly and very helpful with directions, points of interests, and dining tips. The assistant manager Mr. Love was wonderful, and went above and beyond in making our stay great. Try his sangria during the wine reception!!
I wish there was a Kimpton hotel in every city I travel to, because I would love to always stay with Kimpton.
