....I think they've got it. I have had the opportunity to stay at Hotel George on occasion and I am never disappointed. During my most recent stay I was in one of there very impressive newly refurbished rooms--very clean and very classy. I just love this place and the service is great as well.

The Hotel is very well kept, rooms are very comfortable. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Excellent location walking distance from Union Station and Capital Hill. Only problem is the meeting rooms downstairs are freezing. If you're holding a meeting there in the winter be sure they put the space heaters in the room and turn them up full blast otherwise wear a winter coat. We have had meetings thereat the end of January for the past three years and always the same cold room. Other than that the Hotel is fantastic.

Thanks Don, we appreciate that fair review. And there's good news: we are revamping our heating system along with the rest of the building so that this problem can be avoided in the future. We do appreciate your positive attitude, but your comfort is even more important. See you in our warm meeting rooms next year!

Thanks again,
Kiah

The reason to choose The George was as much down to feedback on Trip as anything else. It's a perfectly acceptable establishment but has absolutely no 'cosy' or warm elements to it's design. Perfunctory would possibly be the best way to describe. The staff were helpful, the restaurant the best feature. But do not expect a boutique of quality along the lines of a SLH, even though the price is the same. As an example, ordering the most expensive red wine by the glass on the menu brought a wine barely above freezing. It had been stored irrespective of use. Any real hotelier would ensure this basic error would never occur in what is a busy bar/brasserie.

Room Tip: Top floors are best and ask for an outward facing room as mine looked into a central light well with...

Thank you, Gartartan, for your candor. While we'd like to take credit for Bistro Bis, they are simply our--for lack of a better word--roommates in this establishment. Their Trip Advisor page can be found here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g28970-d485032-Reviews-Bistro_Bis-Washington_DC_District_of_Columbia.html if you'd like to review them directly. In the meantime, we at Hotel George are anxious to know what you might suggest to make our space a bit more cozy or warm. A new look means new room for growth, after all! We do hope you'll take a few more minutes to help us better serve every traveler.

Thanks again,
Kiah

with each step in our experience at the hotel george, we were overwhelmed by the authentic appreciation and welcome. the valet who helped with parking options, the front desk staff who left a hand written note and a gift for our girls, the bellman who delivered kid's robes...it was almost too much! our newly renovated room was calming and comfortable and spacious enough for the 4 of us. their winter rate is what brought us in, but we'll be back without it.

Room 421, periodic banging (every 3 minutes) in the heat/AC system. Sounds like someone dragging tables across concrete. Not happy.

Hotel room is nice, especially the bathroom. Good location on Senate side of Capitol Hill, near Union Station.

Thank you for taking the time to review us, LiamG25! We're glad you enjoyed your stay overall but sorry to hear about your heating unit. Thank you for reporting it, though. Our engineering team has taken care of the issue. We hope you come around again sometime for what we promise will be a perfect stay.

The rooms have recently been upgraded. So if you have stayed before give it another try. The colors are dark in hallways so I question the thought of that. Grey, dark navy blue and stripes. Hallways are not warm feeling. No doors slam you have to push your door shut which helps to eliminate slamming doors. Building in older so you have hardy construction and you can not hear people next door to you nor the sound of flushing toilet water from floors above. Beds are super comfortable but the pillows are lumpy. Towels and linens are nice. Love love love the wine happy hour. Poured freely by friendly staff. The restaurant in the hotel has fabulous food but is very expensive. The hotel staff was very friendly and warm. With the exception of one female our first night. We witnessed her even being snappy to her co-worker. Location is great walking distance to Union Station/metro amtrak etc. A bakery with breakfast great coffee and lunch steps away from front door of hotel. Be aware some construction still going on in the day on other floors that be heard throughout building.

Room Tip: Choose a room not facing the front of the hotel or street. If you looking for a pet friendly hotel t...

Thank you for the excellent review, Sun95Flower! We're so glad you enjoyed your time with us despite the lumpy pillows (Maybe opt for foam next time?). I especially enjoyed your thorough list of highlights! The construction will be over soon--we hope to see you again.

This was our first trip to Washington, D.C. and we couldn't have been happier with our stay at The Hotel George. We were immediately greeted with warm, friendly staff. The front desk were extremely helpful in answering questions and accommodating us. We were particular impressed with the assistant manager, Michael. Michael was fantastic in assisting us in the right direction for delicious and well priced places to eat/drink and many things to do whilst in Washington. Michael also conducted a complimentary wine hour from 5-6 for guests, which was a brilliant way to socialise and meet other travellers. Our hotel room was by far the best we have stayed in for the six weeks we have been travelling around the States. It was very clean, updated and extremely comfortable. I highly recommend The Hotel George for anyone who may be considering to stay here. You will not be disappointed, they really do lead by example.
