My husband and I recently spent a week in Washington DC and wanted a different experience than a larger hotel. We found the Hotel Tabard Inn on line and decided to check them out. The rooms are quaint, very comfortable bed, and VERY quiet at night. We didn't have to experience the heavy door slamming you hear at large hotels. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we were on a very casual vacation, and the restaurant seemed to cater to a more professionally dressed crowd. The only draw back that would keep some people from staying, is they do not have an elevator. My husband and I are very fit, but we did stay on the 4th floor and the flights of stairs would be prohibitive to older people, or those who cannot handle stairs. It is not a place really for people with disabilities. It is also in a great location, quiet street, and very close to the METRO, coffee shops and restaurants. The decor throughout the Inn is very interesting and adds to the uniqueness of the Inn. It is also close to a YMCA if you like to work out, swim, etc...

Room Tip: If you have trouble with stairs I would ask for a room on a lower floor. We booked a room with a pr...

We stayed at Tabard Inn for 2 nights and absolutely loved it! The rooms are very charming and the staff is very friendly! We stayed in the Penthouse and it was absolutely wonderful. Very spacious room with a private kitchen with fridge. The decor in the rooms is absolutely unique. Our friend stayed in a another room with a private bathroom and her room was amazing as well. Plus the tempur pedic mattresses in the rooms are a real treat.
The complementary breakfast seemed small when we read the choices on the menu, but it turned out to be plenty. The restaurant is very chic and is full of people who work in the offices in the area in the evenings. A nice little touch are the glass bottles of filtered water in the rooms to be environment friendly. When the bottle is empty, the guest can simply go to the reception and exchange the empty one for a full bottle. No unnecessary plastic bottles, yay!
The area is very nice, close to all the attractions (we walked to the White House and the trolley stop taking us everywhere around town). Although the inn does not have parking, there are plenty parking garages around, just check out bestparking.com, download a coupon, and you are good to go.
We will definitely return to Washington DC, and stay at the Tabard Inn!

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful!

Depending what you’re looking for, the Tabard can be a dream or a headache. It has 1890s charm and architectural details in abundance and free wi-fi, but there’s no television. The woodwork, furnishings and décor is gorgeous, but there is no elevator so be prepared to walk up 2-3 flights if your room is on the 3rd or 4th floor. (The staff will help carry bags if you ask.) The bathrooms were not well-ventilated (too humid) and the air conditioning is difficult to figure out, but if you ask, the front desk they’ll come up and show you how to do it. The restaurant, bar, lounge and patio are very convenient for gatherings with fellow travelers. We stayed at the Inn with several families of relatives and ended every evening downstairs in the lounge or on the patio. And the breakfasts (included in the cost of the room) are very good – choice of egg (1), scones (very good!), fruit, yogurt or oatmeal. The staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating throughout the Inn and throughout our stay. It’s convenient to the metro and taxis, walking distance to great restaurants. Some rooms are much larger than others and rooms sharing the hall bathrooms were more cost-effective than those with private bathrooms, and we had no trouble finding an open hallway bathroom when we needed one. Making reservations was a bit of a headache; I recommend talking with the manager for the most accurate information on available rooms. We had a lot of fun exploring the 3 buildings comprising the Inn – checking out each other’s rooms, the beautiful staircases connecting the buildings, and the wonderful artwork throughout.

Room Tip: The information on the various rooms available was accurate and very helpful, but talk to the manage...

Hard to believe you are in DC with all it's glitzy new hotels, this Inn offers very well appointed period decorated rooms with new foam mattresses, delicious breakfasts and a great location. Our stay was marred by incompetent and very slow front desk check in but that was forgotten by the end of our memorable stay.

My boyfriend took me to this quirky Inn for my birthday this past memorial day weekend. I was pleased by the ability of the hotel to capture such a quaint feel while being only minutes walking distance from the bustling Dupont Circle. Whether having a drink on the outdoor patio, walls adorned with ivy, or warming by the fireplace in the cozy lounge area you will find yourself at ease. The host staff was absolutely delightful and ready to assist with whatever needs you may have. We stayed in a queen size, private bath on the first floor and were very pleased. The walls were a bright purple, and knick-knacks and paintings gave the room an antique charm. My favorite part of the room was the big bathtub! My only advice would be find parking early and use public transit to get around because looking for parking later proved to be quite difficult. Other than that, everything was perfect and would highly recommend the Tabard Inn to anyone looking for a romantic getaway

We had a birthday dinner in their upstairs restaurant room overlooking the patio area with friends, and we can highly recommend it. Reasonably priced champagne and good wines to follow. Food and service was excellent. You will ned a reservation as it is very popular and an in-house hotel restaurant.

Just got back from 3 days in DC and stayed at the Tabard Inn. At first I was a little worried, no TV, but did not miss it once. The rooms are so quaint. Also did not mind the 3 flights of stairs to get to the 4th floor. The entire staff was very nice and always helpful. Our floor was very quiet. The breakfast was delish! It is close to a Metro stop which was really great. DC is a city the requires a lot of walking so no elevators-no problem. The place is quirky but so charming. Its a nice change from the cookie cutter hotels. Would stay there again.
