“Quaint hotel - great venue for a small wedding”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

This review is a little late. We stayed there at the beginning of February for our son's wedding. The hotel is in a great location - right off of Dupont Circle, so it is very close to the metro station and easy walking distance to restaurants. The hotel has a sense of history, and therefore has its little quirks. Every room is different and each are beautiful in there own way. We stayed in room 7 which has 2 queen beds and a private bath and overlooked the street. The room was large and spacious, but the street noise at night from people leaving bars and nightclubs in the area made it difficult to get a good night's rest. Other people in our party had rooms to the rear of the inn and did not have the issue with noise. Since it is an old building, the stairs are very narrow (no elevator), so if that is an issue, I would request a lower floor. There is a wonderful lounge area downstairs with a roaring fire, which was great on cold nights. This hotel will not be for everyone, but if you like a place with character and want a great location, then you will love it here.

If you are looking for fabulous venue for a small wedding, reception, etc, THIS IS AN AWESOME PLACE. Our son had his wedding and reception here. The special event staff was superb. They did all the set-up and also catered the reception. Everything was beautifully done and the food was delicious. The reception rooms are simply gorgeous. I highly recommend the Tabard Inn for any special event.

Room Tip: The room over looking the street can be very noisy at night. Bring good ear plugs or ask for a room...

Great atmosphere and patio, but sparrows are flying Everywhere, on the tables, picking at napkins. Maybe cute for some but repulsive to others....French toasts were very good but I ordered a smoked salmon and goat cheese omelet and it was blend. I am not a big fan of salt but that had absolutely no flavor. The goat cheese tasted spoiled and I am a huge fan of goat cheese and know what it is supposed taste like. The service was ok but very slow so don't be in a hurry. It took 25 minutes to get the omelet and toasts...

Well it look quaint on the internet, but the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. We were there for a number of days and complained about roaches in the bathroom twice. Little did I know until I was home that I was informed that the living area was also a problem. Many times the room was not dusted and dirt on the floors remained for days. The location is nice, but I would never stay there again, make your choice.

Older hotel that has a real sense of history. We stayed in room with a shared bathroom. It was clean, comfortable and good value and we would recommend this hotel. We also ate at the restaurant as well and it is a little expensive it is worth it.

This is a great hotel with fab food and wine. End of. The rooms are in the french countryside style circa 1900 but with all mod cons EXCEPT Tv and mini bar. Frankly i have no need for either. I drink in the bar and get news and entrainment on my wifi enabled device. I'm sure I could cook up some mini complaints if I tried but basically whilst not luxury perfection it is absolutely one of the best small hotels I've ever stayed in.

Room Tip: You ideally want to be on the left of the hotel as you look at it the man says "your room is th...

We stayed 7 nights at the Tabard Inn based on other reviews on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed.

Remember that this Inn is located in 3 townhouses which have been connected and restored. The antique furnishing, wooden floors in the rooms and decor take you back in time. There is wifi in the Inn but not a television in the place - so refreshing once you try it! Also no elevators so be prepared for some stairs.

We stayed on the second floor (if you count them as ground, one and two). The Inn is a bit of a rabbit warren with little hallways throughout and staircases to climb. We think it adds to the charm. As you walk through you can admire all of the art and curiosities that decorate the place - including the mannequin sitting in the "hallway bath"!

Our room had queen bed, private bath and a little walk in closet with a door at the far end that was attached to another room but sealed shut. We were away from the bar and restaurant on the ground level and entertainment rooms on the first level. We faced the back and had no view apart from the fire escape and back alley. That was fine as the room was very quiet, well appointed and spacious. The bathroom was vintage with toilet, stand alone sink and older "Standard" tub with shower. If you want modern, this is NOT the place for you. You can book into the Topaz next door and pay twice as much!

The included breakfast selection is fine. If you want more, there is a full menu. The lounge is very interesting. We didn't partake of the bar selection as my partner was unable to have alcohol due to some medication - our loss as the place looked very entertaining. We had dinner once - mine was fine but my partner didn't care for her selection - the luck of the draw! The servers are very nice but somewhat forgetful - rather like the clientele!

I'd stay again at the Tabard. The location is close to Dupont Circle, the Metro and lots of sites like the Phillips Collection and St Matthews Cathedral (site of JFKs funeral where young John did his famous salute).

I've stayed four times at the Tabard and have been glad I did every time. The place is a gem - fabulous location, rooms at a range of price points that are all good choices, and mainly it's just the atmosphere that wins me over - the old wood-paneled lounge with a wood fire going every night (in the cold weather) is just the beginning. The rooms all have their own character, tasteful and nicely decorated in historic styles, not fussy at all. The included breakfast is good, with four set choices (bacon egg and toast, granola, scones, and oatmeal if I recall correctly, with juice/tea/coffee included). If you're familiar with the famous Tabard brunch, the full breakfast menu is available but costs extra. Also, they prominently note that tip is not included in your free breakfast. I personally feel like a free breakfast should be free and they should pay the staff accordingly.

My one beef with the Tabard is with whoever chooses their art - someone who has rather pervy taste. For example, there's a poster right at the top of the main staircase featuring a guy's face looking up at a half-naked women, with the eye positioned in a very specific location. One picture, I might let it go. Then I stayed in a room where the poster over the tub featured a topless nymph with four old men's faces leering up at her. I like looking at an artistic nude as much as the next person, but the number of times there's a leering man included in the picture - not necessary, especially in the bathroom.
