Proximity to the convention center simply can't be beat. However, proximity to the construction makes ear plugs absolutely essential. I had no idea that construction could be done at all hours of the day and night, with no rhyme or reason. The breakfast was offered on site for half of what was advertised online, but still wasn't worth it as it only consisted of a few carbohydrate laden options- no fruit, yogurt, etc. the rooms were spacious and housekeeping was good. The regular bed was comfortable, but the pullout bed was awful. The shower was absolutely divine, though!!! The closets were spacious, and the full kitchen made it easy to live there with family for a week, and the overall price was decent.

You can't beat the location if you're attending a show at the convention center. This newly opened hotel has some growing up to do, however I would recommend it. The suites are enormous, more space than one person needs but it is nice having a living room and bedroom separate if you're staying more than a few days. The kitchen was nice but not necessary, the stove and oven were a little overkill and one would think when there is a standard full size fridge in the room the hotel could at least provide a few bottles of water, complimentary or not. The front desk was unkempt and messy, not what I excepted when paying $240+ a night in DC. The bed was comfortable, the shower was unique - the bathroom small in comparison to the room overall but still nice. I haven't been in a hotel bedroom without a TV in ages, a little disappointing but not the end of the world. Overall this hotel could do some small things such as provide bottled water, have a more professional looking front desk, and provide front door cab service to really step up its game. I'll likely re-book for next year's event at the convention center but if I were not attending an event there I would find a different place. Fingers crossed that the hotel under construction literally across the street will force the Eldon to step up its game and have cabs frequent the area more.

Let me start with, the property and location were good. The suite was clean, the iron never worked even though I got a replacement but that's fine. And the price was reasonable when I booked this hotel online.

"BUT"!

I ended up paying for 3 nights of parking when I only parked for 1 night! I have called and asked for a reimbursement but the front desk attendant said, "we can't do that because there is not any indication or note on the account saying that the car would only be there for one night".

Fair enough, just as much my fault for not making it explicitly clear that, "IM ONLY PAKING ONE NIGHT OUT OF THREE". It sucks paying for a service that I didn't receive.

Try not to make this same mistake because The Eldon will not reimburse you...

Came across this hotel apartment by chance while hunting for lodging close to the convention centre. It is (gasp!) 2 minutes' walk, half a block away. One has to almost suppress a feeling of schadenfreude watching the other delegates patiently waiting for their shuttle bus transfer to some distant grandee hotel.

The decor is tasteful with granite finishes and sand-blasted glass, as per website photos. Our Freedom Suite is very spacious, maybe ?800 sq ft in size and could sleep up to 4. The bed is comfortable with pleasant blinds for blackout. Storage space is generous, including a walk-in closet.

The bathroom is well equipped with powered tropical rain shower.

The rooms are really fully-appointed apartments, provided with toaster, coffee-maker, oven, induction cooker, microwave, fridge (with ice-maker), ironing board, and dishwasher with cutlery and detergents supplied. We saved a lot of time and money by eating in some of the time.

With all these, there are standard concierge and hotel services, with changes of linen and great toiletries.

There is cable TV and free in-room wi-fi (for which some hotels will charge exorbitant rates).

Chinatown for food and shops is a few blocks away. To travel further afield, the metro stop is similarly close by, at the convention centre. For supplies, CVS Pharmacy and Safeway supermart are within walking distance.

Any downside? We were warned in advance from website reviews there will be noise from construction of a new Marriott hotel opposite. Hence we chose a room at the back with NO view (looks out at the brick walls next door). There is some low level noise during working hours on workdays (some isolated clanking starts at maybe 5 a.m.). But who stays in their room while on holiday?

The immediate environs are shutdown derelict buildings but safety does not appear to be an issue at least during busy times.

There is no costumed doorman or porter. No pool/spa/gym.

The ceramic tiles are bright and pleasant but cold; bedroom slippers are provided.

A basic breakfast is offered in a small facility at US$5 per person. No room service obviously.

We paid a higher price because of full bookings during the medical convention.

Overall, while not the Trump, a great experience, value-for-money stay. One worries the price will be hiked up once the area regeneration is complete, and the Marriott opposite is up and running in a couple of years.

Enjoy the Eldon while you can.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the current construction noise.

In July I stayed at the Eldon for the second time. The hotel is right across the street from the DC Convention Center, and is conveniently located near a metro station. It is also within walking distance of great DC spots. The only issue I have with the Eldon is their bathrooms. Although the appearance is nice, the showers tend to leak on the floor regardless of best efforts. Also, the pull out mattress on the couch (both visits/different rooms) was flat and lumpy, and not the most comfortable. Make sure you check different sites, as the prices vary greatly depending on the site you check.

So the story goes like this. I was living in DC at my uncles place. A close friend of mine from Bombay makes a trip to DC before he has to head over to Indianapolis for college. I finish my shift at the Washington Post, where i was working at the time and get in touch with him. He asks me to come to 9th street NW. I got off at the Metro Center stop and started walking and before i know it i see him waving out on the street. Boy, was that a good feeling, seeing one of your best friends after having left your home country. So there we are at the entrance of Eldon. Eldon is a fabulous place if you like your privacy - not too many people around. Really peaceful. Ambient music in the lift. Not hectic at all. And also your space ( in literal terms i mean ). The suites are huge. You've got your ethernet connection. The location is fab. We booked a cab from Eldon to Maryland and paid like 25 bucks. Two really helpful guys down at the reception. Buffet breakfast. Some muffins, danish pastries and coffee and you're good. We found a really good thai restaurant closeby at the Verizon Centre called Thai Chilli. Believe it or not we ate 6 out of our 7 meals from there. Ordered in at Eldon most of the time. The one meal from Dominos. China town is really close. Always nice walking around at Chinatown. My friend who had spent more time in the states than me asked me to try the Chai Tea Latte at Starbucks which i loved. There's an open kitchen so you can cook at your suite if you want to. Eldon is a really enjoyable place.

Room Tip: Look out for a good deal on hotwire.com and stay at Eldon.

We stayed at this hotel during Labor Day weekend for a conference. It is very close to the convention center which is a plus also the full kitchen was a plus - other than that we don't have much to recommend. First off it is utterly ridiculous that there is no ramp so we had to carry all our luggage and baby strollers up the stairs. Secondly the staff at this hotel was the least friendly most indifferent staff I have ever encountered in my 30 years of traveling. What ever happened to greeting people with a smile? The rooms were good size but the floor was cold. Overall I would say for the price we paid this hotel simply does not cut it.
