“Convenient for the city centre.”
Reviewed 23 August 2014 via mobile

Just one stop from Union St station, the hotel is adjacent to the metro station (red line) and central Washington is in easy reach from this hotel. In a quiet area there are a few eateries nearby incl a Five Guys for fans of the best burgers in the US and an Au Bon Pain and small c-store. Rooms are modern and spacious. Hotel food was good. Plenty of plug and USB points. Free wifi throughout hotel and a free business centre with computers and printers to check in for your flight, print boarding passes etc. Ideal and convenient hotel for exploring DC and would recommend it.

i've stayed here once before and noticed a musty odor in the room which surprised me for a marriott...my only complaint. The first visit our room was really small and on the opposite side of the tracks that many people review about. It was very quiet

This time we requested 2 queen beds and all rooms with queen beds are on the railroad tracks side. We were on the 8th floor, and yes we could hear the trains go by and an occasional horn but it WASN'T bothersome or loud. Didn't interrupt sleep and I'm a light sleeper. I think being on a higher floor may have helped with the sound. This room was clean and odorless with the exception of the wardrobe and drawers..musty again...I just didn't use them. The room was odorless though and very clean

Staff very accomodating. Au Bon Pain next door for breakfast if you don't want to eat in the hotel. More variety at Au Bon Pain. There is a Five Guys right across the street.

NOT A GOOD AREA for walking at night. We took the metro during the day it is right next door and only 2 stops from Catholic University which was convenient. We also took cabs and Uber, Uber proved to be most convenient of two and less expensive. Always available. NOTE: Don't take UBER during 'surge' times as this means you will pay double to triple b/c its a busy time. You have to approve it on app so you'll know if its surge time. We only ran into that once. All drivers were great. Uber definintely got us to destinations with shorter routes than cabs it seemed. Our last Uber driver drove us to White House for photos and waited patiently then returned us to college... and onto hotel. He was very nice and it only cost $30 for over an hour with him

Catholic University had a college orientation rate of $129/night at Marriott so def. worth it.

I'll stay here in the future when I come back to visit

Room Tip: Higher floors if requesting two queen beds which are on railroad side

Thank you for your thoughtfully worded review. We appreciate you returning to our hotel.

Thank you for noting the silence of our train-facing rooms. The housekeeping team will also be excited to learn that they made a difference. In fact, it seems by your review that the entire team was memorable - thank you for mentioning it for others to read.

Washington, DC is a wonderful city, and like any major city, nighttime walking excursions should be carefully approached. We are located adjacent to the ATF Headquarters, Department of Justice and we enjoy our partnership with their police.

As you noted, taxi service in our entire city is not yet ideal. Our new neighborhood, NoMa, is the fastest growing area - yet traffic in DC is a problem during rush hour. The vast majority of our guests use the Metro Train or Uber, as you did.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Safe travels,

M Wilson

We stayed here because we had a concert at the national stadium. It is within walking distance and also close to restaurants. They staff were very helpful and polite. The rooms were clean and bed was very comfortable. The only issue we had was the valet parking. They didn't tell us it is first come, first serve. The manager was very helpful and offered us breakfast because they didn't tell us at check-in. It was a minor issue and would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Thank you for the review. We are glad you enjoyed our location for the concert. Whether for a baseball game or concert, Nationals Park is very convenient with our hotel being adjacent to the Metro.

Thank you for the wonderful comments on the staff regarding their memorable service and cleanliness. I am sorry there was a slight communication issue regarding our parking. Due to high volume, we usually manage on first come/first serve. We appreciate your understanding.

Please let us know when you will be back in the area. We welcome a chance to serve you again.

Safe travels,

It is great for business/leisure purposes. It has a very good location, it is at the middle of everything one should visit in DC.

The only bad thing is that it doesnt have 24 hour room service, but besides that everything great.

Nage Bistro's Hamburger; Great!!!

Thank you for the review. We appreciate all feedback. So many guests enjoy our great location...I am pleased to see you did as well! We are glad that you enjoyed your Bistro Burger! Always great to hear.

Thank you for the suggestion about 24-hour food service. We will certainly explore that option and see if there is a way to incorporate that enhancement. I look forward to speaking to the team about that!

We hope to see you again soon and appreciate you staying with us.

We were there for one night. Very clean and friendly staff. Closed to Au Bon Pain for good coffee. Expensive on site parking, but in DC, they are quite rare. Reasonnable rates. Nationals Park not too far. Fast valet service.

I spent 3 days at this hotel during the week of August 11, 2014. First, the pros: nice clean hotel room with a modern bathroom. Free wifi access and friendly staff. Only steps away from the NoMa - Gallaudet U (New York Ave) metro stop for the red line. Some people complain about train noise in the middle of the night, but I had a room on the opposite side of the hotel from the train station, and I didn't hear any noise at all. The bistro restaurant doesn't have a wide variety on the menu, but the food is decent, especially if you don't want to venture out into the surrounding area (more on that below).

Now, the cons: the biggest issue is the location - it's a rough neighborhood. The nearest metro station is on the corner, but I encountered some animated homeless people on the short walk from the hotel's main entrance down to the corner. When you walk out through the main entrance and make a left, the business immediately next door is a 7-11. Several homeless people were in front of the 7-11 at all hours of the day and night. One homeless woman asked me for money, saying she wanted to buy a belt to hang herself...

You will also pass through an area on the way to the hotel that is economically depressed. Speaking of traveling to the hotel, the address listed on the website to use with your GPS gets you to the vicinity of the hotel, but you wind up in a you-can't-get-there-from-here situation. You will be able to see the hotel, but there won't be any safe/legal way to turn to actually get there. I wound up turning my car into the employees-only valet parking garage, which by the way is the only parking option and costs a whopping $33/night plus tax.

The layout of the hotel is a little unusual, as the front desk is on the second floor. Also, the front desk isn't really the traditional "desk" area that most hotels have, but rather 3 individual stations resembling podiums with their own lines.

All in all, the hotel is clean and adequate and very close to the metro station and features a friendly staff, but is difficult to find with a GPS, in a rough part of town, with homeless people immediately outside the main entrance, and pretty expensive parking. Also, the Five Guys burger joint across the street destroyed my stomach...

Thank you for the detailed and thoughtful review of the hotel. We appreciate all of your comments and will celebrate the positive news about the staff and our cleanliness.

As you noted, our location to the Metro is perfect for people seeing DC. We are pleased your experience was quiet and restful.

Washington, DC is a wonderful city to visit, however from time to time people encounter some situations with people that are not ideal. If this ever happens in our part of DC, we encourage guests to keep us informed and let us know how we can assist. Our first priority is safety and security of our guests. We are proud to have 24-hour security and controlled access to guest floors, ensuring only registered guests enter the building. Our security measures are not out of necessity in DC, however we made a choice to go above-and-beyond with our guests as occasionally our guests are unfamiliar with the city.

Our neighborhood, NoMa (North of Mass Ave) is the fastest growing area in DC and is actually in year 6 of a ten year improvement plan. Located next to the ATF and Dept Of Justice HQ, we enjoy additional local security.

I am very sorry that you had GPS challenges with locating our hotels. As a new neighborhood, many dashboard-mounted GPS systems have not absorbed the new streets. When using a dash-mount, please use 200 Florida Ave as our address. SmartPhone and updated dash-mount systems may use 1325 2nd Street NE. As the area continuously evolves, we look forward to a new stop light next to the hotel that will assist guests with turns and changing directions. (Coming in September).

Perhaps one of our unique design elements is that the building entrance is located on the first floor, while the hotel is located on the 2nd floor. Designing of the 1st floor into retail space provides additional options for our guests for shopping.

Your experience and memories are important to all of us. Please let me know when you will be back to the area, I would love to stay connected and help in any way.

Thank you for staying with us.

Safe travels,

M Wilson
