Owner description: Not just a park in the city, but a kind of leisurely museum, with a scattering of Civil War forts, a cemetery and a 19th-century mill within its bounds.

A wonderful public park in the city. A great place to run, hike and bike - they also have some historical buildings you can visit.

This is a must if you want to walk around peaceful environment and breathe fresher air. The path that runs along it is great and you can lay on the grass, read a book or just nap.
One of my favorite entries into the park is through P street.

This area reminds me of Fort Stevens Park in Warrenton Oregon. Guess its just me. Beautiful breathtaking. Excellent place to jog.
Even Gettysburg reminds me of Fort Stevens, maybe because beautiful, historic being some of the like characteristics.
Do visit this beautiful place, in summer ss well as winter.

Had a great Christmas jog in the park. The trail passed the National Zoo and provided a great respite from the bustle of the city. There were plenty of other joggers, bikers, and stollers out so it felt safe and secure. In either direction you can gauge an out and back run up to at least eight miles (my limit). Cars moved quickly along the road, so avoid if possible.
