“A Stunning Gem of a Museum”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

This little gem is off the beaten track in Washington, DC, far away from the often overcrowded free museums on the Mall, but it is a must visit for any art lover. "The Boating Party" is probably its most famous work, but it's full of delightful and often overlooked works of art. This gallery is not free, but it's most definitely worth the entrance fee.

“A true jewel”
Reviewed 27 July 2013

The Phillips harbors a magnificent collection that should be part of anyone's visit to the Nation's capital. The many exhibits that pass through it cover so many different forms of art, periods, techniques, etc.

“Braque show is not to be missed!”
Reviewed 26 July 2013

The Phillips Collection has always been my favorite museum to visit while in DC. I just saw a fabulous Braque show last week. I can still close my eyes and see the subtle changes and surface variety in the works. Their approach to educating the public about the art they are viewing is spot on. The show of Ellsworth Kelly was good and made even better by the artist/ art educator tour guide that was the docent for my afternoon! The rhubarb pie was also a hit!

“Impressionism and cubism by the Circle”
Reviewed 25 July 2013

For art lovers who want to avoid the throngs of tourists in this hidden jewel of art behind Dupont Circle. Renoir and Matisse would have approved to hang their painting with such simplicity, especially 'The Boat Party'. The little cafe is charming and offers a nice courtyard to enjoy a glass of wine.
The mix of live jazz, art and amuse gueules is also a great combination.
Not to miss.

“See the Renoir!”
Reviewed 25 July 2013

While most of the Phillips Gallery is modern art, there are a few impressionist paintings there. The most famous being the Boat Party. It's huge and wonderful. It alone is worth the price if entry.
