“The best Art is Hard to Find”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

My wife is an art educator and I am an art lover, and yesterday we spent the afternoon drinking from the wellsprings of joy - at the Phillips Collection. At first we felt frustrated walking down Massachusetts looking all around for the museum. There seems to be no easily visible sign on the Mass. Avenue side of the building. But once we arrived we stopped at the cafe "Tryst". The staff were extremely inviting and friendly and accommodating to our food needs (vegan and gluten free). The luncheon was delicious and delightful. Then out we went to enjoy a spotlight talk and tour the Made in America exhibit. It was hard to believe how many works we both found absolutely exciting! And this show introduces guests to 120 different artists and styles. The entire experience was one of delight, and continual surprises. From the colorful work created by school children in display at the lower floor, through room after room organized to treat us to wonderful American artists, to other rooms devoted to European artists… we were overjoyed. Of course I love Arthur Dove's work, and there were nearly two rooms full of his refreshing and delightful work. But go and explore the 120 different American artists! See and savor the joy and beauty for yourself!

“Interesting collection”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

This is a chance to get away from the mall. It is near DuPont Circle. There is an admission fee of $12 ($10for senior). The collection is housed in several gallery rooms. We enjoyed the Exhibit Made in the USA but of course gravitated to some of our favorite painters: Chagall, Renoir, Degas, Picasso, O'Keefe. This Colkection gas wonderful variety for its size. Don't expect it to be a MoMa or Frick collection or National Gallery. But it is definitely worth a visit and you can enjoy the neighborhood with many embassies, the Wilson House, etc.

“Great Collection”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

As a new transplant to the Metro DC area we have been exploring. A visit to the Phillips Collection was very rewarding. The Made In America exhibit was wonderful and gave the visitor an insight into how the collection was acquired. If you are in the area spend some time at the museum. The surrounding Dupont Circle area is also fun to explore.

“"Made in the USA" - Do not miss!”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

This is a magnificent gallery that currently is exhibiting "Made in the USA" featuring 120 American artists. If you can't find two hours to visit the entire exhibit, an absolute must is Jacob Lawrence's The Migration Series - truly exceptional. The exhibit runs through August and many of the paintings are in the permanent collection.
