Owner description: A museum of American craft art that begins with James Renwick’s architectural design of the building itself.

Small but fascinating. You can do it in an hour. Their permanent collection (upstairs) is solid, particularly the sculptural furniture.

With a few notable paintings in a lovely setting, this collection was really supposed to be a crafts museum. Although there were contemporary crafts, there were not enough to offset the so-so paintings. There was one good JS Sargent, and a few other recognizable names, but not many.

This museum was nice, but small. Not a lot to see, but the building and presentation of the art work was beautiful. The current traveling exhibit was furniture, fairly interesting.

This is one of the smaller Smithsonian museums, and it's a little off the beaten track compared to the flagship museums on the mall. I went at a peak time for visitors, a summer Saturday afternoon, and was pleasantly surprised at how quiet and uncrowded it was. The art is interesting, the building is a gem, and the museum store has great stuff in a range of price points. Highly recommended.

Small & personal. You don't become overwhelmed, you get a chance to focus on the beauty inside and out. The works are diverse and offer something for the traditionalist and the modernist. The Thomas Day furniture exhibit currently on display shows the excellent craftsmanship of the man and ot the times. A must see in close proximity to the White House.
