First the positives --
The fried okra and the Brussel sprouts are AMAZING
The staff is very friendly and you can tell trying very hard.
There is a disconnect between the server and the bar -- it took FOREVER to get a glass of wine, every time we ordered one -or two.
Beyond the two vegetables that I referenced, the food is OK. No standouts. A group of us shared several plates -- fried chicken, brisket, crab cakes, and the cobb salad cups. Sadly, the descriptions were better than the food -- everything we got was bland and needed "something" -- a spice, a sauce, something. Even the chimichurri that came with the brisket was bland. The cole slaw that seems to come with everything is particularly gross, slimy and way overdressed.
We were big fans of the America Eats Pop-Up in Penn Quarter, the Tavern falls very short.

The restaurant recently opened and is dedicated to 'American' classics. What I enjoyed the most were the appetizers. Since i'm vegetarian, I had a hard time with the main courses since they were primarily tailored towards meats and BBQ. The service was great. They do not have a brunch menu on the weekend, just the regular menu.

Had a special Father's Day dinner in the historic building of this recently opened restaurant.Very creative appetizers, main courses and desserts. Our group of 8 shared different things including shrimp on grapefruit, cornbread, cobb salad put together in wraps, egg sandwiches, brisket sandwiches, crab cakes, shrimp and grits, and 4 unbelievable desserts. The service was exceptional.
