Booked a tour in advance rather than taking a chance with standby and glad that we did with all f the school trips, etc. Managed to get passes to Senate and House of Representatives also once there which we didn't realize when we booked online. Unfortunately the visit t the rotunda didn't happen because construction had been delayed so that was disappointing. The museum in the Capitol Building is amazing.

It's a DC must-see! It's symbolic of the city, probably more than the White House IMO. It's kind of thrilling to be somewhere where the country's wheels of legislation turn...

When we went they were doing work on the main room so the tour only included the crypt and the former supreme court. Was nice to see the supreme court room (I never realized it was originally housed in the capital), but they rushed us through. We paused to look around and within a few seconds the guard actually said we have to move on and keep the line moving. If you are planning on visiting check and make sure the main room is open again (I believe they are putting up netting which will be in place for a while during renovations), otherwise I don't think it is worth waiting on the lines to get in. We took the White House tour which is also self guided, but they didn't rush you and the guards were happy to answer any questions you had. Very disappointed in how they handled this tour, hopefully it is better when the regular tour is running. While you are waiting for your tour to start they have an interesting exhibit on the dome, and the full size mold used for the statue that sits on top of the dome (the scale is incredible, amazing to think that is the topper for he building!)

Other than the tour the building itself is beautiful, my favorite exterior architecture in DC.

The Three Houses of Government are key places to visit when sightseeing in Washington, DC. The White House, the Capitol and the Supreme Court are impressive buildings and visiting them will help you understand more about the U.S. government and its history.

The government by the people and for the people can not be seen by people. A person could not even get into watch the House of Senate debate. A true slap in the face to our founding fathers. You literally walked in one room and out. You see nothing.
