Owner description: The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

We didn't go inside but did walk up to it, all the way around it and then took some time to sit in front by the pool and enjoy the view from this end of the mall.

Book the guided tour at least a week in advance. Although they asked you to print the e-mail/pdf, you just need to show them on your smartphone as they only need the reservation number. They offered me an early tour which I took it up without doubt. I personally enjoyed the tour a lot. Definitely recommend it (it's free too!). Mr Allen, our tour guide, is calm, composed, knowledgable and he made everyone feels at ease.

This is kind of like being in Orlando when it’s raining. You know it’s not going to be very good, but you have to do to Disney World. While no visit to Washington would be complete without visiting the capitol, you don’t get to see much at all. The tour consists of the recently completed Visitor Center, the old house chamber and the rotunda. It’s about 45 minutes from start to finish, including a 10-minute video presentation. It’s easy to get to and well organized. There are a few moderately interesting exhibits and, of course, two gift shops. The tour itself can be slightly more or less interesting based on the enthusiasm of your guide. As for my guide… let’s just say that the thrill of being in the U.S. Capitol is gone. There is a tunnel from the Visitor Center to the Library of Congress. That’s a nice way to see the Library, which is far more interesting than the Capitol. Also, the cafeteria is good.

Amazing place, easy to access and we will return. We had a fantastic tour guide. You are also able to take in all of your camera gear as long as your bag does not exceed the size posted on their website. Food & Drink are not allowed though. Also get there earlier than your tour time to make sure you get through the security check. Next time we go back we will go through our representative to get a tour rather than the website. If you go through your rep. you have a much smaller tour from a staff member and are not in a large group.

Booked through our Representative. The film is ok, and the tour is also OK. I was disappointed to find out that in order to see the senate or house chamber it is a separate tour that must be booked through the Representative. Overall I'm glad I went, but not sure I would do it again.

It was interesting to watch all of the little boot-lickers run around in their suits and ties acting like they were big shots.
