“Orchid Mystic”
Reviewed 28 March 2012

Currently at the Botanic Gardens is an incredible display of orchids. Not only will you see many of your favorites in a variety of colors and sizes, but also many are totally new to folks not extremely knowledgeable about orchids. For example, there were several that looked like huge pansy faces. We have visited the Gardens several times, and it is always beautiful, but the orchid show is short term. If you're in Washington soon, plan on a visit. And since it's next to the Capitol building, it's likely that you'll be in the area. It's a wonderful stop and relax place. And there is a special area for children to learn about plants.

“Beautiful and educational”
Reviewed 28 March 2012

As a fallen gardener, I love to see what real gardens are supposed to look like with a crew to care for them. This is a great spot - fun for families and great for the single gal to escape too during odd hours to recharge and take in and breathe. Lovely plants and plantings. Nice architecture to boot. Easy to get to as well. Nice destination for after a museum to change things up.

“Simply gorgeous”
Reviewed 27 March 2012

The Botanic Gardens in Washington DC is one of the many sites with free admission that can be visited in our nation's capital. It offers a variety of rooms representing different biospheres and special spots for children's activities. We could not have been more pleased with the exhibits (particularly the special exhibit of orchids that was on display), and all the staff with whom we interacted were more than friendly and helpful. This was a perfect way to spend a drizzly day in DC.

“Great spot in D.C.”

In the summer the live Jazz is always great. It gets crowded so go early. It's wonderful for ice skating in the winters.

“Pride and Prejudice!”
Reviewed 27 March 2012

The US Botanic Garden is in Capitol Hill, a few minutes of a walk from where I work. I visit it at least 4 times a year. It attracts tourists both Americans and foreigners and rightly so! In the winter they have poinsettia exhibits, train exhibits; in the spring they have orchid, summer is a cacophony of all flowers. It extends to an herb garden and other plants that I cannot name. Envelope yourself with pleasant scents and exotic plants and flowers. Inside and out, the US Botanic garden will make you proud and as a "local," I am sort of prejudiced - I love this place, it is a tranquil place where I don't get tired of walking its paths and admiring what it has to offer from cacao plants to cacti...When you are in Washington, DC, don't miss it. Take Union Station Metro train and walk towards the US Capitol; the Botanic Garden is on the West Side of the US Capitol. Nearby are museums, all free entrances (Smithsonian and the Natl Gallery of Art). Right now, the orchid exhibit is on and Washington is awash with pink petals of cherry blossom trees and crabapple blossoms!
