We were very hot and tired, but still thought this was worth a stop and glad we did. Don't plan on getting something to drink there, though.

The flowers are beautiful. At Christmas time they have model trains set up. Fun afternoon.

I visited the Botanical Gardens around Christmas 2011 to see the train display and it was a great exhibit. Aside the trains, there were incredible fictional and non-fictional miniature buildings made from natural materials. These were the main draw in my opinion. A finite number of visitors are allowed in the exhibit at once so I suggest visiting during the week because the line to enter will be much shorter. The line moves fairly quickly so don't be discouraged; just dress warm if it's cold.

They have many variations of plants to see from different places, tropical, to desert to just in your back yard! Believe it or not my youngest son LOVED this place, he wanted to look, see and take a picture of EVERYTHING! I thought they would be bored, now the "pre teen" wasn't as excited but it was well worth seeing!

This is a site not to be missed, especially if you truly appreciate and love flowers, plants and beautiful gardens. The inside had a arboreum that was amazing with all the different kinds of plants. Each species had descriptions of what type it was and where it was found. Off the main area was smaller enclosures that were displaying more specific types of plants. When we visited last week there was savage garden display that had a very vivid display of plants that eat insects. We found it amazing and very interesting. Great descriptions with pictures and the real plants were on display. The outside rose graden had a incredible water fountain going. It was like being in a English garden right in the middle of Washington DC.

My father worked here back in the 1940s, so it was nice to know his hands were a part of all those beautiful gardens, (literally). The one thing we wished was there was a gift shop. We love to shop for t-shirts or a small souvenior of all the places we visit.
