Great hotel in fabulous area of DC. The staff is outstanding starting with valet and bellman. The front desk staff went out of their way to help with directions, dining suggestions, etc. The lobby and common areas are very nice with lovely art and comfy seating. The hotel was an old apartment building which has been converted into a hotel, thus creating spacious rooms with wonderful natural lighting…the rooms are not typical cookie cutter. Some of the carpet is a little tired and worn, but overall was a great spot. Walk to shops and dining…25-30 min.walk to White House and mall. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Our corner room was large and sunny.

Hi ncmgolden, Thank you for your four star review and for calling The Churchill a "great hotel in DC". We definitely take pride in giving our guest's the very best service from the time the pull up to the hotel, through the check in process, during their stay, and out check out. One of the benefits of being a smaller boutique hotel, is that we can accomplish this type of service with all of our guest's. It sounds like you thoroughly enjoyed your suite and we definitely plan to "refresh" the carpet in the future. Thanks again, and we'll see you on your next trip to Washington, D.C.!

This was not my first stay at this hotel, but it was my last.
The hotel is very charming with nice size rooms and great location.
I reserved 10 rooms for a family and friends get-together and everything was nice and cozy until I got to my room (junior suite). It was about 80 Degrees F in the room and the A/C did not help too much. A mechanic came to the room and tried his best but could not help to lower the temperature. He even brought us a fan (that helped to circulate the [hot] air). I complained again in the evening and again in the morning (after a terrible night's sleep) and received no help and at check-out no sympathy! A very disappointing experience!!!
Friends, whose room faced the back, had no problem with the A/C!!

Room Tip: Don't take a room facing the front of the hotel in the summer, as the sun is stronger than the Air Conditioning of the hotel

Stayed over a long weekend in a junior suite with 2 double beds. Our flight came in early in the morning and we Metro'd and walked our way to the hotel in hopes of storing our luggage until check in time, but Michael at the desk asked us to wait a few minutes and they would get our room ready right then! Very soon we were escorted by the Head of Housekeeping to our room where we could freshen up before going out again. The room was spacious, everything was very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable, with feather pillows and duvets. The hallways have a slightly mazelike quality, and the carved moldings have been painted many times, in the way that older hotels often do, but this is exactly the sort of thing that drew me to the place. It definitely carries an old European hotel vibe. As many others have mentioned, the staff are all smiling and helpful. The location near Dupont Circle is convenient to many good restaurants. Most nights we ate dinner within a block of the hotel. Yes, there's a bit of a hill if you're walking up from the Metro, but that is DC. Parts of it are hilly.

Perhaps above the charm of the hotel, was the considerate and happy vibe of the staff. From the front desk to the housekeepers, everyone was charming and accommodating. While it is not at all a cookie cutter hotel and there are a few minor imperfections to the rooms (as seen in the photos), the hotel is charming, quiet, and a great value.

I would agree that no matter what room you have, the walls are thick. We didn't hear a thing. We will always stay at this hotel when in town and recommend it as it is not over the top but a great place to come home to after a day in DC.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 8th floor (there are 9 floors) opposite the Marriott Courtyard hotel. While our view wasn't the best, it was very quiet.

We stayed over the 4th July weekend, and got a room for $99 per night including breakfast. The staff were lovely and helpful, always a greeting and ensuring you were having a good time. We were in room 831 at the front, very spacious and the bed was large and comfortable. The bathrooms are small and a little tired, but very clean and the hotel is restricted by the shapes of the walls given it was built as apartments. Wi-fi is free for the slower speed option, and good strength. Breakfast was usually a buffet (charged at $14 if not included in your rate as ours was) and to be honest is was very ordinary. The bagels were the best part as the hot options were not hot and not great quality really. Convenient for us as it was included, but if not included I would grab something elsewhere. The hill back to the hotel mentioned in many reviews is only the last 100 yards or so, and is not particularly steep - we had no issues with it. We walked most places and the location was convenient for Georgetown, 14th street restaurants and heading down to the mall. We ate at China Lights one night - beware the portions are enormous, but very tasty!

Room Tip: Room 831 was perfect for us - large, quiet and with a nice view.

Dear tal27, Thank you for your five star review and for sharing your experience with TripAdvisor readers. You're absolutely correct, room 831 (a junior king suite) and has a lovely east view of the city, especially when it's very sunny outside, a spacious interior, and the bedding is very comfortable. Your description of the walk from Dupont Circle gives an accurate picture, although walking up a slight incline can be a little cumbersome for some guest's. Also, thank you for mentioning the temperature of some breakfast items; we'll definitely improve on that and hopefully you'll notice a difference on your next visit to The Churchill. Take care!
