“WHERE HAS THE CHINATOWN GONE?”
Review of Chinatown Archway

Chinatown Archway
Reviewed 27 February 2013

The Chinatown Archway is the "North Star" to the "disappearing" Chinatown of Washington, DC. As mentioned in my review of the Chinatown of Washington, DC, (TripAdvisor # 131, Things To Do in Washington DC), HIGH RENTS and gentrification are the reasons for the departure of Chinese businesses and residents of Chinatown.

Use the Archway as your landmark when visiting Chinatown. Remaining in this area are few Chinese restaurants and gift shops.Located near by are various types of restaurants, bars, the Verizon Center, Metro Station, Museums (such as the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum), etc.

Enjoy your visit!

It is a typical Chinese archery, and is an excellent place for photography and have a nice memory of Washington, DC. Lately that area of the city became very popular for young people and restaurants. It can be crowded

The chinese people stared at us and the whole area smelled bad. The arch iteself was cool to see and the kids enjoyed seeing everything written in chinese, but it just did not seem like a friendly area.

You can go if you want a picture on the arch other than that there are few authentic chinese restaurants in the area

Although not a large structure it is colorful and somewhat impressive. The design employs the standard styles, colors and decorations of many Chinese buildings. It is difficult though to get in a good position to take a photo of the site due to location near a busy street intersection.
