So many side alcoves, all with stunning statues of the Blessed Mother. Architecture is beautiful. This is the largest Basilica in the USA

Acoustics, music, homily, Mass service overall.4:30 pm Mass for travelers. A landmark structure, rivals Europe's best

This is a beautiful church and also, a sign of the Universal Church through its many chapel, each one reflecting a particular ethnic group in America. In addition to the scheduled masses, there are also pilgrimages, concerts, tours of the Church. There are many opportunities for personal prayer as well and for several hours of confessions daily.

A triumph of Byzantine/Romanesque Revival architecture the Basilica contrasts sharply with the Gothic majesty of the National Cathedral and is equally impressive.
For some the interior may be overly fussy and ornate but give it a try. To have one great seat of worship is to Washington's credit, but to have two...
It takes a little effort to get there but it's time well spent and make sure the battery in your camera is fully charged.

really beautiful, be sure to go on one of the guided tours on the upper level. not a quick trip there, or to see all of the basilica, so don't think you'll be in and out in 30 minutes. train ride over was part of the fun as well.
