Washington Marriott Wardman Park
Ranked #106 of 141 Hotels in Washington DC

My company had a conference in the hotel. The rooms were small but very clean. The hotel staff was terrible. There were a few very nice employees. Bellman staff were all very helpful and nice. The hotel bar staff and lounge area staff were terrible. I have not seen customer service this bad in years. I know DC is known for having poor customer service- this hotel contributed to upholding that reputation. I heard that Marriott actually sold the property and if that is indeed true- I believe it based upon the service I witnessed.

What can we say -- looking for something complimentary is far too difficult. For a Marriott property, the Wardman is a total letdown. The staff is extremely rude. The room which was guaranteed in writing was competely ignored upon check-in. We were attending a conference, requiring a workspace and good lighting. Not only was the ligh dim, we had to call four times over a five hour period to even get them to replace the lightbulbs which were burnt out. There were huge stains on both the bottom and top sheets, as well as ants in the bathroom. A cool front moved across the DC area during our stay, and guess what -- NO HEAT! Quite honestly, there are far too many quality customer service hotels in DC to waste your time on the Wardman. The Marriott corporation should send their staff, especially the front desk employees back to a training couse on what it means to treat high-paying customers with dignity and respect. This hotel is a waste of money and time -- DON"T stay there! We have always enjoyed Marriott properties in the past, but the Wardman is a disgrace to their name.

My wife and I just returned from a conference and we stayed in the old wing and looking at the pictures of the new wing from other's reviews we think the old wing rooms are better! The rooms are spacious and designed in the early 20thC style (walk in wardbrobe, entrance hall etc). The view was gorgeous from the 8th floor over the capitol building and the train station was just below.

The bed was comfortable but the service in the hotel while polite and efficient was nothing like the service we experienced at a 5 star hotel in Bangkok a week earlier! The most pleasant people were the cleaning lady and the barman.

Food in the Pub was fine and the beakfast was very nice (but once again, not a patch on the BKK experience). BTW we stayed at the Plaza Athenee and we paid US 200 a night! All in all the Marriott is a very nice hotel and the old building is most attractive.

A small warning - if you take a taxi from the hotel they charge man! My wife paid $45 for a trip to a shopping mall and on the way back it was $18 using a different taxi!

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to our son's college campus and a good promotional rate. The property is massive, with a large, confusing lobby. Although it looks quite impressive, the staff ranges from indifferent to rude, and even though the check in area is huge, there was only one person working when we checked in. If you choose self parking, the walk from the garage to the center tower can take ten minutes through the hotel. The rooms are small with no honor bars and the bathrooms so small that you can barely turn around. This time the housekeeping was poor, as we found items belonging to previous guests in our room. The only plus is the gym and pool area. If you are willing to sacrifice almost everything else for a good gym, this is a good choice. If not, there are much nicer properties, including many Marriott properties in the area.

The Marriott Wardman Park was a good hotel and great value for the DC area. The rooms were nice and bed was very comfortable. The location was wonderful, near central DC, but in a quiet area away from the noisy traffic of the city. It's a huge hotel and has a nice large gym with personal tvs on the fitness equipment. There's even a convenient Starbuck's in the lobby area! Apparently, there are 2 areas of the hotel. You want to stay in the central area nearer to the lobby. The other area looks nicer on the outside but it's older and a far walk from the hotel entrance.

We were in D.C. for a convention at the Wardman Park Marriott. As part of the convention package, my wife was given a complementary two-room suite in the old tower. It wasn't quite the fabulous place I had expected but it was pretty darned good. The suite consisted of a living room with two sofas, a dining room table, desk, small refridgerator, and tv. The room was probably 400+ square feet so it felt very spacious. The bedroom was a little smaller, probably 300 square feet, with barely adequate drawer space and a relatively small closet. The bathroom was long and narrow with no counter space whatsoever and an average shower. Overall, the room was a little worn but it was still quite nice. The only problem was poor tv receptiion--a problem related to the dish on the roof--that got better as time went on.

Maid service was fine, as was the front desk. The outdoor pool was nice but the absence of a spa was noticable. The common areas are well kept and having a Starbucks just off the lobby is convenient.

The location is terrific, just a hundred yards from the Metro station. I bought a weekly pass on the Metro and rode it everywhere. The zoo is a four or five block walk and the National Cathedral is about twice that far.

Let me start off by saying that I was expecting more from a Marriott Hotel. The service prior to our stay was terrible. I called a couple of different times for questions. Everyone who helped me was rude and short with me. So, because of this I wasn't sure what to expect. To my surprise I found the staff very friendly and helpful. I would have to say the cleaning staff was the best. Always greeted you in the hall and was very helpful. I don't think it is worth the price. I think the average price is around $300.00. We paid at least half of that, because we were there for a conference. The rooms are very small, with double beds. Bathroom was way small. You could barely turn around. No fan and the toliet ran constantly. Really no big fan fare about the hotel! We thought it was just average. It was very convient to the Metro and we loved that!
