“Nice room, brewpub in lobby, sweet!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2011

My room was nice and quiet and clean. I had lunch and dinner at the Gordon Biersch brewpub located in the lobby - absolutely wonderful German wheat beer. I was able to easily walk to the Whitehouse, actually saw President Obama as he drove in with motorcade - would be cool if I liked him.

Great location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Entire property was well appointed and very clean. (This hotel is in an old renovated back...check out the vault room downstairs.). My only complaints are (1) the room was very small. I felt like I was back living in Europe. (2) the air conditioning sucked. We couldn't get the room to cool below 72 degrees even though the thermostat was set at 65 and it wasn't very effective at dehumidifying the air.

We decided to spend the 4th of July weekend in Washington D.C. to take in the fireworks and generally see some of the sights around town. Knowing how crazy things get on the metro after the fireworks, we opted to stay downtown somewhere within walking distance of the mall. This place fit the bill perfectly. Just down from the Verizon Center, a block from the National Archives, across the street from the portrait gallery and spy museum, and three blocks from the mall. One block walk from the Gallery Place metro stop on the yellow line. Very convenient. We used the location to our advantage to get an early start on site seeing and then came back to the room in the middle of the afternoon when it was very hot to relax and then went back out again in the early evening. Great if you are a family with little kids who might need a bit of downtime around lunch/early afternoon for an hour to keep away the "crankies".

Room prices were about what you'd expect to pay in a larger city during the height of tourist season. The room was adequately sized, but not spacious and clean.

There is a restaurant / bar attached which serves good food, but it is a bit pricey and there are better places to eat in abundance nearby. We did not opt for the breakfast package which costs extra (this should be including in my opinion). The pool is a bit of a joke -- it's very tiny. As long as no one else is using it, it's OK for quick dip to cool off, but not much else. We weren't here to swim in the pool, so that wasn't that big an issue although a better facility would have been appreciated.

No onsite parking. There is valet parking service, but like all downtown parking in D.C. it's super expensive. We decided to park at the airport ("B" garage) and ride the metro yellow line to gallery place and walk the one block to the hotel (use 9th an G St exit and walk down hill one block to the hotel). Cost at the airport was $20/night to park. You can park for less using the "economy" lot at the airport, but then you have to ride the shuttle to the terminal. The "B" garage exits right into the metro station on the way to the terminal.

Overall a pleasant stay and we're likely to return again in the future to this location solely based on it's excellent location.

Room Tip: Views aren't the best on the off street side of the building, but it does have less traffic nois...

We stayed here over a weekend.

Great check in experience even with an early arrival.

Rooms were a little small, but bed was comfortable and room was very clean. Great wifi service. Evening reception in lobby was nice.

Good location for sightseeing. Spy musuem was quite unique and fun.

We'd stay here again for sure.

Scored this hotel through a priceline bid, got it for a very good price and it exceeded all expectations.

Room was modern and clean, great bed, big shower, couldn't ask for more.

Staff were all very helpful, posted some postcards free of charge for us.

Never charged us for drinks taken from the little store at reception. They had complimentary drinks and finger food every night in the lobby. Free beer!!

Great brewery/restaurant next door, was always busy, good sign if the locals go there. Great location for exploring the national monuments in the area. Everything is pretty spread out in Washington, and requires lots of walking, but this hotel was in a pretty good spot..

The doormen and check in staff were always friendly and helpful.

Had the buffet breakfast on out last morning downstairs, $10 per person, which was reasonably priced in my opinion, and they had a great selection. Should have eaten here every morning as there's not so many dining options nearby..

Didn't have a car, so can't comment on parking.

Great stay, highly recommended, even if you don't get it discounted.

From the beginning, the staff was awesome. We arrived early after a long overnight bus trip. I didn't expect to check in, just asked if they could hold our bags. Our room wasn't ready but they gave us another room so we can take a nap -- ahh heaven. Our room was still ready early - by noon. The location was awesome, we walked to many attractions, although it was time consuming because DC is very spread out. Free internet and mini water bottles were a nice touch - especially after a long walk in hot weather. One morning, I had to print out tix in the business center and the printer was out of ink. I told the front desk, I expected to wait a while, but less than a minute later maintenance came and printed out my tix. There was never a line or waiting for anything, extra towels and pillows were brought to our room within minutes of asking. The room was impeccably clean. Wonderful stay, will be back.

Stayed here many years ago for a convention so decided to try again since happy first time around. It was even better this time rooms are modern, clean etc. Staff is above and beyond and the loaction cannot get any better. Their 6:00 managers happy hour has a large selection of food, drinks etc. I highly recommend this hotel for business or pleasure.
