“Great Location; Nice Accomodations”
Reviewed 20 April 2013

Stopped for a short visit with my two teenage daughters. Hotel is walking distance from many attractions. Room was nice, clean. Hotel appearance is very nice. Front desk staff was particularly friendly. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

Stayed here for one night for a business meeting. My room was clean and quiet - both requirements for me.

Don't miss the restaurant - while the breakfast buffet was average, the dinner was amazing. I had the Shrimp and Grits with Andouille Sausage. This entree was great - highly recommend it. I also tried the gelato - while the Carmel Corn gelato was icy, the Vanilla Bean gelato was creamy and delicious. When I mentioned the problem with the first gelato that I tried, my server offered the replacement and removed the charge from my bill. Great service.

The entire staff was very friendly with greetings all around.

Will definitely stay here again.

The Hilton Gardens downtown location is prefect. It is directly across from Metro and within walking distance of the White House, China Town, The Verizon Center, and much much more. If you didn't want to walk catching a cab was a piece of cake. The rooms were nice and clean. We stayed in a room with two queens. It included a refrigerator, microwave, and a safe. The pool is small and there is no hot tub (which would have nice after a long day of walking). The fitness center is small but has everything a person needs for a quick workout. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They have a breakfast buffet for $14.95. If your not a buffet person you can order individual items or there is a Starbucks on the corner one block away. Our room was on the front side of 14th street. You could hear the noise from the street (typical for a big city) but once we went to sleep I didn't hear a thing.

This is a very good HGI. Great location. Great service (front desk, door, restaurant, houskeeping - everyone). But, ask for a room opposite the street. We stayed at the HGI for five nights. In town for our first every cherry blossom visit. Flew into National then took the Metro which is right across the street from the hotel. Didn't rent a car as no need with the Metro so close. I travel alot for business and my needs are basic, clean, convenient and secure room. My wife was along so she wanted a bit more. Thus this HGI.

The rooms are spacious and clean (great housekeeping staff!). The only challenge this hotel has is the high noise level from the street. I hope they invest $ in sound proofed windows at some. It would make this hotel that much more pleasant.

The third morning there was no hot water in the shower. I called maintenance and they promised to fix the issue by the time we returned that afternoon. Which they did. What was really nice was the personal note from I belive the hotel Manager apologizing for the incovenience and a offer to try the in-hotel restaurant the Grist Mill. Very nice touch.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay downtown.

After reading the most recent posts about this property, we chose the Hilton Garden Inn for our visit to Washington. The reviews are correct - the hotel's location can't be beat. It is in the centre of just about everything you want to walk to in downtown Washington and if not, well the metro is literally across the road. The service was very good - if they had not told us about the White House Spring Tour we would have never known. There were fresh cookies every day at 6PM (which don't last long) and coffee/tea in the lobby each morning. The price was about what you would expect for a downtown hotel in a nation's capital.
We had a king one room suite on the fourth floor which was comfortable and functional. As other reviews have mentioned, the "view" overlooked AC units and other rooms so we just kept the drapes closed. We might as well have been underground but we didn't travel to DC to sit in a hotel room so this wasn't an issue. We did not have any street noise whatsoever. There was a fridge, microwave and two TVs (both featuring Korean i.e. the sets' language was not changed from when they were manufactured).
We did not have any complaints although we did find the bed's pressure control feature did not work and the AC unit noisy indicating both are likely in need of a refresh. We didn't eat at the hotel - there are lots of restaurants nearby. The room was clean (we checked), the towels fresh and the amenities were just fine.
We would recommend this property, especially if you are a Hilton points club member.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, ask for a lower floor (no road noise) but there are no views.

We spent 4 nights along with 2 of our friends in this hotel. The thing we liked about it was that it was so convenient to everything. It was right across the street from the Metro, and was in walking distance to many restaurants and attractions. The hotel was clean, staff very helpful... gave us two bottles of water to last the four days! If you want breakfast it was $14.95... we didn't. There are quick places to eat breakfast across the street. Our bed was lumpy, we complained and they put in a new mattress for us. Two nights there was some kind of alarm going off in another building outside, but this was not the fault of the hotel. The rooms were adequate for the two of us, very clean, halls were quiet. The hotel was not opulent, but adequate for what we were doing, touring and viewing the Cherry Blossoms. However, the price was too much for what we got. It was overpriced and not a great value.

Accommodations are not up to par for the price you pay to stay there. I could hear all the street traffice and the man beating his drums by the Metro all day and night. Then at night Ih ad the pleasure of a street lamp shining directly into my room's window. When I requested to be relocated to another room I was just told no. I had to spend Monday-Friday feeling exhausted due to sleep deprivation. I would not recommend anyone to stay here. The people were friendly though.
