It was our first trip to D.C. and my daughter wanted to bring a friend along. We needed a suite with 1 and 1/2 baths as we didn't want to spend 1/2 the morning getting ready to go out.
We had booked a large 1 bedroom suite for our stay (2 adults and two 14 year old girls). From the moment we arrived, the staff were friendly and professional. They were always there for us. Helpful, inquisitive, but never intrusive. Our room was clean and well maintained. The bed and sofa bed were very comfortable. They offered a rollaway too, which we tried for 1 night. Comfortable, but the girls decided to share the queen sofa-bed to save space and use the living room with less obstruction.
The ensuite bathroom was huge, and elegant. Lots of towels and 2 plush bathrobes. Even 2 pairs of disposable slippers. The 1/2 bathroom was a good size too. The girls had no complaint and had lots of counter space and drawers for their things.
We stayed 4 nights, and found there was ample drawers and storage for our clothes.
Our only observation was that the closet was not very big, and the safe was rather shallow, although you could stand a laptop vertically if needed. It was fine for us, but if we had more items to store, it didn't offer much space to spread things out.
There is a Wi-Fi charge for in the room-pay per device. I called the front desk to be sure before we logged on 6 devices. I was given a complimentary passcode to avoid the $60/day Wi-Fi charges. It was the first of several great courtesies the hotel provided us on our stay.
We did not use the fitness centre. We were just too busy outside of the hotel. We did look in, and it was very inviting. Maybe next time. The pool was under renovation, and at check in were told we could use the pool at another hotel a few hundred feet away.
We all enjoyed the evening cookies. What a nice treat.
Coffee was complimentary in the lobby in the morning, something we really enjoy, but if you need Starbucks, there are 4 within 1-2 minutes walk of the hotel.
We enjoyed the breakfast package for 2 adults, which was actually a $75.00 breakfast food credit to be used in the hotel restaurant. If you need a big breakfast, the weekend buffet really is a great start. The girls didn't have big appetites, nor my wife, and to my surprise at check out the few dollars we went over were not added to our bill.
In addition, we came back to our room after our last night on the town after 9:00pm. We knew we had missed the cookies. I commented to the valet we had a great time out, but the girls missed out on cookies.
When we opened our room door, we walked in to find a box of cookies and a tray with some chocolates with a thank you note from the hotel manager. We were very impressed. Several minutes later there was a knock on our door, and the valet was there with a plate of cookies for the girls. Sugar overload-no problem.
On checking out, I asked about the bill, to be sure about the breakfast charges. She said they had it correct. No extras. No mistakes.
I've stayed in many nice hotels, but this Ritz is a leader in customer service, second to none.
We look forward to our next stay.
